THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fantastic article mate, sums up pretty much every major criticism of Wenger in years gone, as well as the 1773 pages of dogshit on this thread

Comparing Wenger to Tim Henman is being very kind to Wenger... even Tim won a few titles in Europe :barscarf:

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reveals plans to turn Granit Xhaka into a box-to-box player as he urges £35m man to make 'huge impact' on Premier League

Another project in the works I see... Ramsay MK.II

Still his way or the highway I see... you'd think someone would start showing a bit of humility after 12 years without a title :banghead:

‘We had a difficult start,’ he said. ‘After that we were quickly under pressure and the mental solidity of the squad is tested straight away.

‘We have already to make some ground up against teams who have started well. The mental state of the squad is good but now we have to show consistency.’

Mental solidity...mental state...things are looking great in the psychiatrists room, of course on the pitch, where it actually matters.........

We are already to make up some ground........??? What does that even mean??

To be fair you can never have enough box to box midfielders  On the flip side, having even ONE proper DM in your team would be a disgrace and where possible this type of player should be moved out to make room for another box to box midfielder :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I wish to fcuk this senile French crunt would stop buying players and then playing them in completely different positions   :censored:

Typical Wenger - indulging himself on yet more vanity prodents. Spends £35million on an unproven player and then tries to convert him into an unfamiliar role. There's no risk for Wenger is there?

* It's not his money.
* The owner will never sack him.
* Wenger seems to decide everything that happens at Arsenal but isn't accountable when it goes wrong.

It's just like when Gordon Brown or George Osborne spent billions of our money on some bloody white elephant and then tried to tell us how grateful we should be.

Augie, this is project Wenger..Playing players out of position is his (deluded) way of showing his genius...He cannot be wrong so when he fucks up a decent player's career it is the player's fault...
He saw something different in Henry 16 years ago and now he believes he can do it with everyone.. There is Arsenal FC' s biggest failing, the fact Wenger doesn't have to answer to anyone..
It was suggested elsewhere on the forum that Xhaka was not Wenger's signing..if he wasn't then is he, Xhaka, getting the Bould treatment of a few years back when he tried to coach the defence..?
Wenger's way or No Way

Great article, Mark 8) These AKB rose-tinters can't help but whine and say it's personal to call out TOF as the fraud that he is

It's ridiculous to see Xhaka joining the long line of players that have been deliberately mis-used by TOF. This arsehole is determined to convert players to something they are not, due to some dumb luck with a few talented players two decades ago. He won't play many players in their correct position and has ruined their time at Arsenal as a result.

It would be nice to have a rock at the heart of the midfield, but TOF continues his lack of respect for the art of defence and his insane commitment to suicidal-but-blunt attacking (only to pass sideways around the box) with dogshit strikers and a perpetually shaky defence. 2-8-0 lives!

It does seem like a plausible theory that the board are making certain signings over TOF's head. Xhaka being the latest one; hence his current treatment.

As for the Sanchez clause, it is pretty standard in Spanish/S.American football. As long as the fee isn't low enough to be activated. I'd be sad to lose him.

I just wish TOF would leave, but he won't :banghead:

To be fair DB, that's the level of coaching he has actually shown over the years, nothing more... 8)

The thing is World Class Box To Box Players are a very, Very rare commodity - Besides what they can be taught there has to be a natural leaning towards that position from day one. They must be able to defend, as in protecting the back four by breaking up the forward play of the opposition before it becomes a danger, they have to know how to read the game in advance, to snuff out danger, But they must also have that creative skill and be able to turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye - they must also have a very good 'engine' be fitter (and quicker) than the average player..which is why players like PV4 only come along every now and again.

As a side note: Anyone with an ounce of knowledge of what makes an even decent box to box player would have moved heaven and earth to buy Kante - Yes, he has only had one season in the prem, even so the facts are: He reads the game extremely well, knows where and when to be, has a great engine, is at the premium age of 25yrs and has shown a natural ability and flair for the position.
Had we signed him we would not struggle in those games when we are 'slow to start' - A box to box player is the kind of team member who can and will take the game by the scruff of its neck and drag or drive the team forward.

Cocquelin is okay, but not in the same league as Kante....I wish he were...but as I say Top Quality Box to Box players are a rare commodity.

I have had 10 years criticising this Buffoon of the highest order, but Steve Bould needs a slap for supporting him.
If and when he goes, ALL of the back room staff can fuck off too, I do not want to see a single piece of Wenger DNA at our club...
Big Broom with attitude urgently needed so supporters can get back to supporting without Wenger and his Sideshow Bobs..

You sir, speak wisely - under no circumstances should he be allowed upstairs and be able to Interfere with the new guy.
The backroom staff hopefully depart too - there may even be room for Vieira, Bergkamp, or Thierry to provide their knowledge and wisdom..
