Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to tie his top players down to new deals having seen Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and now Robin van Persie hold the club to ransom with just 12 months left to run on their contracts.

Wenger is poised to open negotiations with England winger Theo Walcott, who only has a year left, along with teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the next few weeks, but central defender Koscielny is first in the queue.

According to French paper L'Equipe, Koscielny will be offered a new five-year deal that will take the 26-year-old through to 2017 on vastly improved terms.

Koscielny has been a big success following his transfer from Lorient in 2010, despite playing in the French second tier only three years ago.

He has four caps for the French national team, with the latest coming at Euro 2012 when he started against Spain in the quarter-finals.

Manchester City, Barcelona and AC Milan have all taken a shine to Koscielny, but Arsenal hope a new contract will put paid to any transfer talk.

Koscielny is expected to sign on in the next few weeks, and will be boosted by the arrival of close friend Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.

Now, to expect some poor news.

You have already listed the bad news and I highlighted it for you

we delayed and took to long. He was on 30k a week and we could of got him for about 50-60 and for about 15mil

Wenger didnt bother as he was waiting on nasri. Then the chavs came in and by then it was to late as we would never win a bidding war

Now we are talking..............some potential good news on the horizon :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Arsenal preparing for Walcott exit as Wenger plans bid for wantaway MosesBy Sportsmail Reporter

Arsenal are lining up Victor Moses as a replacement for contract rebel Theo Walcott.
The Gunners winger's deal expires next summer and the 23-year-old is yet to commit his future to the club.
And boss Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid for Wigan winger Moses who shone as the Latics avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.

In demand: Victor Moses looks set to leave Wigan for a top Premier League club

Chelsea have already had a £4million bid rejected for the 21-year-old but are expected to return with an improved offer.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has warned potential suitors that Moses will cost £10m.
Whelan has offered his prized asset a new long-term deal worth £20,000 per week, but Moses has made it clear he does not want to extend his stay at the DW Stadium.

The youngster has set his heart on a move to Stamford Bridge, despite interest from Liverpool, and now Arsenal, according to the Daily Star.

Walcott meanwhile is unhappy with the offer of a new four-year deal, worth £70,000-a-week. He wants nearer £100,000 and has emerged as a target for Chelsea.
Wenger is prepared to allow the England international to leave at the right price, believed to be £15m.

probably the main point I've made there is I'm in a bad mood and slightly whiny...

but what I was trying to say was: we don't really know what happens with these deals
various combinations of events are floated - Mata's camp said (in Spain) he let a clause expire to make more money for Valencia (then in England that he wanted to sign for Chels) pro-Wenger press say it was a money driven change of heart, anti-Wenger press say it was Arsenal's 'dithering' that made him change his mind.

I've been involved in a few big transactions with multiple parties on either side
after any deal goes through different people on the purchase side, sell side and any agents normally have different opinions as to why things happened (victory has a thousand fathers but defeat is an orphan)
this is the case when you buy a small flat (you'll find it was your Mrs influence that got the price down even if you negotiate) or take over a large company.
Can't see football transfers being too different. Lots of agendas lots of versions of the 'truth'.

Personally I see the Mata deal + the RVP deal (or for that matter Henry and Vieira staying on, Gerrard not going to Chelski) as being mostly driven by money

Jovetic is an interesting one. I've only seen him a couple of times but he looks class. However, like Eriksen and others, his name has been bandied about for two or three years without anybody making any serious offers, which always worries me.

Anyone that thinks that replacing Walcott with Victor Moses would be a good deal is smoking something far stronger than I am (which in itself would be an achievement! 8)). However unlike my good self - who has had years of specialised training to enable me to handle the full effects - it's obviously scattered any last piece of sense they may have had left in their brain!!

well i must be on the chronic - because swapping Walcott (22) who's on 55k and wants 100k (a 90% pay rise Theo - really ?) with a player of 21 who is being offered an improved contract of 20k seems the way we should be managing the playing staff.

if moses works out great - if not flog him in a couple of years. but 100k for Theo is just continuing the problems of the last six years.

bye Theo, you money grabbing mercenary no loyalty *word censored*, don't let the door hit you on the way out :cussing:

After supposedly being some 'wonder-kind' and linked with all the big clubs when at Palace, Moses has struggled to live up to the hype and to impress at little old Wigan, beyond the odd game. If the reason for buying him is to save money on wages rather than on football ability then we might as well go the whole hog and become a fucking bank!! :banghead: :banghead:
