Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Interesting read, Wenger's European failures laid bare, with the Barca final being the tipping point.

but if you now go on to the basel thread you will see people claiming we will smash them simply because of Saturdays result,people have short memories,and no im not a miserable krunt,well yes maybe I am,but Im as pleased as everybody that we smashed the chavs im just not getting carried away with it,one swallow doesn't make a summer does it,i seem to remember that CL game at home to Napoli 3 years back,we were majestic then a month later we lost at home to Swansea with the crowd calling for wengers head again,im a feet firmly on the ground kind of blokeDB10GOONER wrote:augie wrote:DB10GOONER wrote:Augie - who's flip flopping? markyp - what the fuck man? People being happy we finally smashed the chav is pissing you off?Get over it, mate. The win had nothing to do with the line up or luck. It had everything to do with the attitude. Every one of our players gave 100% for 90 minutes and showed how good this team could be if they could maintain that level of commitment and attitude. But of course they won't as Wenger's man-management skills are non-existent. We pull off a result like this every season. Last season it was Manure we blitzed.
No one is saying we are now a great team. But we were brilliant against the chav.
No offence lads, but I don't get you pair. If we'd lost you'd be on here (rightly) moaning. We won and you're still on here moaning.
Don't get us ??What's to get ? This was probably the first post I have ever made on here defending wenger, and I'm getting criticized for it

All I was saying is that those that have praised wenker for playing sanchez through the middle, shouldn't come on here criticizing him in a few weeks over that same decision just cos others are saying it at the time. I never suggested that it was a lucky win and tbh I don't care if it was a lucky win cos I will take a win over the chavs any day regardless of how it comes

Methinks that this is another case of looking at the poster and assuming that it is a negative post![]()
And Methinks that this is another case of you not reading my post.I never said you said anything about a lucky win - I clearly addressed that to markyp.
My point was that instead of just enjoying the fact we destroyed the chav, you were moaning about "flip floppers".![]()

Papers talking this morning about the FA's chance to land Wenger for the England role. Just shows how far they are from understanding Wenger's mindset. Be questioned by lowly journalists about team selections & tactics, be expected to actually win the group as opposed to virtual success..... They really do not get it, have no comprehension of his power at Arsenal and how badly he would fail. Most of them still think he is a GREAT manager.

If wenger becomes the next full time England manager do we get to keep this thread?

Christ Almighty - this season is going to be just like the last 10 or so :-
* Start slowly, then
* Loads of impressive results
* Look as if we're well in the hunt for trophies
* Autumn / winter arrive and - Oh fuck me the wheels have all fallen off
* Come up against a top class European team and - Oh fuck me the wheels have all fallen off again
* Spring arrives, good weather returns and we look good again
* Slip into 3rd or 4th place, miles behind the leaders
* Rinse and repeat with £2,000 missing from our wallets.
Wenger is far better and much more consistent than Martinez, Rodgers, Moyes, Bilic, Redknapp and many, many others but we know he's never going to trouble the teams that we "left Highbury to compete with"

England eyeing Arsenal's Arsene Wenger again — but the Gunners aim to keep him with a new deal

Yip, he's such a sly fox, he's stringing the FA along, basically not ruling out the England job because he has now placed himself in a perfect position to negotiate that new 10m a year deal. Perfect scenario, great start to the season, ticking along nicely in the CL, sign a juicy 3 year deal, then come Jan/Feb ALL the wheels will come off and we will be in yet another dogfight for that coveted CL spot. He will NEVER accept the England job, in fact I cannot see him managing anywhere but at Arsenal as there isn't a club in the world that would give him this kind of power.

This is the best squad we have had for 10 years. Our problem is that it's also the best City, Liverpool and Spuds squad as well.
Chelsea and United have had better so IF Wenger is actually waiting to see how well we do before he considers signing a new 2 year deal then we can not have the wheels fall off. Time will tell. I have no complaints about this squad apart from another striker but let's see how Perez does.

We are excellent at the moment. But we will not sustain that for the entire season. We never do. We never will. Not whilst we have Wenger as manager.

He's playing an absolute blinder at the moment
Publicly flirting with the England job by refusing to rule himself out of taking it next summer is him laying down the gauntlet to the club for the contract extension. Yet again the stars have all aligned for the lucky bastard and with a run of fixtures coming up against the dross it's only a matter of if and when I blow my own brains out
