Beware the Germans are coming
Funny thing is that I'd been expecting many more Germans than were actually there. I know we were in the Family Enclosure but there were none visible around us. And I didn't see many outside.
On the away European nights I've been to I think Arsenal fans have been much more visible....
All credit to them for the noise. But in terms of numbers I didn't think they were anything special, given the importance of the occasion TO THEM.

When did you arrive at the ground? You probably just missed them as most away fans arrived more than 1 hour before kick-off.MK Gould wrote:Funny thing is that I'd been expecting many more Germans than were actually there. Regarding the "importance" of the game: it may was decisive for Dortmund's Champions League campaign, but the games vs Bayern last week and vs Schalke yesterday were much more important to Dortmund fans. Reaching the next round of the CL was unlikely before the game anyways.

Ok - credit to the Germans for their behaviour, numbers etc. Just getting a bit p*ss*d that they keep wanting us to pat them on the back for it....
There was no trouble in Dortmund or in London. Think BOTH sets of fans deserve a bit of credit for that.
And sorry, but while there were a lot of them, I don't believe there was anywhere near the 7000+ being claimed.....And some of them were quite patronising about how many we took to the game over there. True - it was (understandably) a low turn out. But lets see how many we take if we get Ajax next. Or maybe Munich in the Quarter Final.....
So, they make more noise than us. Who doesn't???

I’ve posted more links in the game thread.
'Our revenue from ticket sale will be the highest of the world. We will have 60.000 fans and we will sell the highest price tickets and Business Seats, more than any other club of the world' Keith Edelmann, Board member Arsenal FC, 2006.
You've asked for it - you've got it.
All the best for the rest of your campaign in the league and in the CL.

"Losing on the streets" could have been implying that there had been some sort of trouble and that Dortmund were the winners.... I don't think that's what you meant!Tomáš wrote:I meant that we have been load on the streets before the game and in the ground...just watch the vids if you are interested:SWLGooner wrote:Losing on the streets that day Tomas? Yeep...I did not meant fighting or some kind of trouble...I've meant singing and showing colors and representing the team, city and club
I knew that some of you probably would get that wrong
...we are not in the 80's when Hooligans ruined our sport.
Some of your guys have been out in Dortmund and it was a good atmosphere.

I think that’s what it is about. Having a good time before the game and then supporting your team during the game and leaving a good impression as guest.
Cheers,
Thomas
Byw: Your police force did a real great job that day, thanks to them!

By old days do you mean 2006 when we took 50,000 to Paris for the final?Tomáš wrote:Funny...you must be in your own world...or you must be still drunk....and remembering 'the old days'.MK Gould wrote:Funny thing is that I'd been expecting many more Germans than were actually there. But I was one of several thousand very visible, very noisy, very friendly Arsenal fans in Milan and Barcelona in more recent years (Marseille ticked the visible/noisy/friendly boxes if not in terms of numbers). And I think I remember us having great support in Madrid?
The size of the Dortmund support at the Grove was excellent......but not exceptional! And if they had drawn us in the knock out phase then they wouldn't have been able to mop up the tickets that were available in the general sale phase. That's the only reason that we haven't seen a European away support of 7000 (

I was there in Paris, Milan and Barcelona. Dortmund's support looks a joke compared to those trips. I was not there in Madrid, but we were in far larger numbers there, than Dortmund were in London.MK Gould wrote:By old days do you mean 2006 when we took 50,000 to Paris for the final?Tomáš wrote:Funny...you must be in your own world...or you must be still drunk....and remembering 'the old days'.MK Gould wrote:Funny thing is that I'd been expecting many more Germans than were actually there.
