I'd settle for Fraizer Campbell or Franco di Santo ahead of that plum we had lumbering about yesterdaySTLgooner89 wrote:Just watched the Wigan vs Sunderland highlights. Why the fuck didn't we just buy Steven Fletcher!!!???
Olivier Giroud - Another Alan Smith or "Le Chapman"?

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
When I started this thread a while back, I honestly thought that there may be a link between these two. After six months I do still see a lot of comparisons in the start of their Arsenal careers.
Recently, many people have been getting on Giroud's back. Maybe fair enough, he has not being setting things on fire. All I want to re-iterate is that Alan Smith's first season at the club was very average, and that is being kind. BUT Smudger turned out to do very well for us. I do not think people should give up on Giroud so early on in his time at our club. I see a player that has potential. It is only his first season and there is little that he can do about that.
Fingers crossed I still think he can make it.

I have it on reliable authority that Steve O was seen singing giroud's name last night after his 2nd goal

At least it's a break for him from masturbating all over his Diaby shrine!

I haven't given up - I just think we need to provide the right service to him.
Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
He's not going to get much better than he already is. I genuinely like the guy and want him to do well, but he's never going to be one that will get the match winning goal or create a chance out of nothing to win us the game. Instead he will perform well when the team is firing like last night and he will grab goals in games we dominate. In games that we need the striker to make a difference? Not going to happen. Expecting anything else from him would be foolish.A dallying Gus Caesar wrote:When I started this thread a while back, I honestly thought that there may be a link between these two. Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
This says it all. He has never scored in a league game in which we havent scored 3 goals. He doesnt score winning goals in tight games like RVP.Its games like Chelsea last week when a golden chance happens against good opposition we need him to score.MM99 wrote:He's not going to get much better than he already is. The amusing thing is that when the window lickers around me starting signing that song I stood there flatly refusing to take any part in it......unlike those around me that were all in agreement how fucking awful he was again throughout the first 45 minutes but then seemed to think he was the new Messi when he prodded in a near post corner after Mertesacker fouled their defender.
Honestly, I suppose we don't need to buy a striker now that our scoring machine from Montpellier has swatted West Ham, an already fucked Newcastle, Coventry (don't mention the penalty) and Reading in the League Cup
Its all as predicted - he'll pop up with a few goals here and there against the shitey teams because he is on their level. We'll see how he gets on against Bayern, Manchester United, and even Liverpool next week. Still got the touch of a 14 year old having his first fumble in the back row of the cinema

Watch out for our beast from Montpellier though - if he's on song you'd better hide behind your seat (only for fear of one of his headers connecting with you up in the stand)
