Dortmund away match thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Everyone was awful except maybe Jack.

However, there were 3 that were worse than awful.
1) Arteta should never put on a professional football jersey again. Rather see shitty Flamini or Ox or Chambers or Rosicky playing DM.
2) Ramsey back to his classic self of 2 years ago. I was a full believer in him starting this year after the season he had last year, but he's now reverted back. It's even more depressing now because we now know he has the ability but he's not performing.
3) Ozil. No words need to be said other than that.

AW can fuck off.

Hi,
what strucked me, why was Arsenal playing in Blue colours?
Cheers,
Thomas

That's our designated "cup kit" and it will be worn away during every CL and cup competition match so long as the colours don't clash with the home team.

Szczesney in poor form, set himself in wrong positions for their goals.

Ozil is starting to look like Arshavin MKII despite my high hopes for him.

Souness called it right on Sky Sports, saying how we have too many similar midfielders and do not have a good enough defence.

We needed to be faster and more direct, in my mind that means The Ox, Campbell and Rosicky.

Arteta as a defensive midfielder scares me, he played out of his skin the first 18 month she was with us but looks as if his legs have gone since then.
Flamini when he plays there runs a lot but is not top draw.
It really is time to gamble and try The Ox or Coquelin or Hayden there until we can bring someone in during the January transfer window.

Never going to happen Quartz because that would mean Wonga admitted he was 'wrong' not to get a DM and he would also look like he was conforming to what the masses want.....he always looks like he deliberately DOESN'T do what everyone else thinks is right!!

Pathetic performance in a competition that's pointless us being in.
I hate the CL with a passion. Unless you're the Spuds who can enjoy it for the ride or Chelsea who have a genuine chance of winning it, why are we in it? Oh yes, I've just remembered the 25 million reasons why we are in it.
Coupled with that we have to yet again put up with the Manager stood on the touchline without any idea of how to change a team when we're getting totally and utterly mullered.

Come on Wenger do something about this bunch. They are cantering during games. That is not acceptable.
This was the sort of game where Ozil should of started on the bench. We lacked total bite in the midfield. I'm saying we would of won the game, but we have to set up to cover the defence and midfield much more in these type of away games.

I think Liverpool were in the best position last season and Man Utd are this season, Yes we all want to be in the Champions League but if not in it then not being in Europe at all is the best option.
I do understand Eboue Why's comments about our attitude to this competition that being getting into it for the cash is our only incentive as a club.
Last night was embarrassing, our boss will point to 17 or whatever consecutive years in the group phase, but the bigger question that he should be asked is what he he learned and what has he developed to ensure that we are getting closer to actually competing for this trophy. We are getting further away from winning this by the season. We are the Newcastle Utd or Aston Villa of Europe..doing enough to survive for the money. The media will point to Arsene's great record in the competition and in the next breath discuss our poor one. To that point Wenger is getting off light while the media delight in our failures as a club in Europe. Again no discussion as to what part the manager plays or doesn't play in the failures.
There is no doubt on here where the blame lies , our manager on Tuesday bemoans the fact we only had three fit defenders and 24 hours later said Dortmund had an easier game on Saturday. Yet only fans can point out the failures are his fault. So we get into Europe and into the money, the media go too easy on Arsene but lambast his produce and Arsenal's hierarchy are happy. All except us.
Embarrassed last night to see an International footballer that plays for our club search for his shinpads in order to come into such a vital game. Then to see his international teammate throw his pads at him to use. A pathetic way to sum up a pathetic night.

ok time to get some positives from last night:

I think Wilshere did ok again and worked hard. good to see improvement from him this season
Gibbs looked good in the first half - I just hope that he can stay injury free this season
Welbeck is at least getting chances - maybe against the weaker PL teams he might be able to take them
Bellerin did ok - hopefully he can build on that in Capital One Cup games

the rest were shit

Agree, thought Wilshere had a very good game and was the only midfielder to get stuck in too.
