All this crying and moaning about Costa is ridiculous. Everyone knows he's a c*nt, everyone knows he likes to provoke a reaction, yet our manager didn't think it was wise to instruct the players not to fall for his antics. Just amazed that these so called professionals can't keep their cool in an important game.

In previous games this year teams like Palace and Everton have swarmed all over Chelsea. Even before Gabriel got sent off we weren't imposing ourselves on them at all. Our football style doesn't work against Chelsea and never will.

Lets do what the morons did to Beckham eh? Burning effigies, a doll of him hanging from a lamppost perhaps?

How dare he be so selfish as to stand up to a bloke who goes round waving imaginary cards, elbowing people in the face and shoving people......and then reacts to Gabriel clipping his big toe by surrounding the ref with his pals trying to get him sent off.

Nice to see Wrighty moralising in the studio too - the man who never lashed out or had a petulant reaction to something in his career?

I'm delighted we've got so many saints on here - the confession box must be empty round your way

This rarely happens, but I agree with Garth Crooks...

"Every so often I think you need a referee in a situation who is sensible, and treats the players like men.

"If no-one had been sent off in that clash between Costa and Gabriel, no-one would have screamed.

"The only man who was interested in sending someone off was the official. Don't look for excuses to send players off. Just do you job and try and keep it 11 v 11.

"Mike Dean is a really good referee but he has one fault - he wants to be the star too often. It's not about you, Mike. People pay good money to see good football. It's not about you behaving like a schoolteacher."

Too many stupid, petty read cards. Costa is a prick and Gabriel was an idiot for giving Costa exactly what he wanted, but if the ref tells them to grow the fuck up and keeps his cards in his pocket, then maybe the game an continue 11 v 11.

There's so much to dislike about football these days and that 5 min period in the first half summed it up.

2 red cards and a deflected own goal. Nacho lost his man at the far post.
The ref was awful how the fuck did Costa stay on the pitch?
Gabriel and carzola straight reds when ivanovic and costa got away with a lot more and lot worse.
Costa should have got sent off for assault on Kos. He goes off Gabriel would have not been sent off.
Some people need to get a grip on here.
because our midfield was completely bossed and bullied
no intelligence from our defenders today, trying the dribble their way out of danger, not getting on costa's back enough
no tactics or gameplan

pretty much the same as every other game recently. it's a shame so many of our fans are naive enough to let these things cloud their judgement :|

According to Rio it's "part & parcel" of English football to come off after the game with the side of your face raked open because somebody deliberately scratched you??? But DON'T stand on somebody's foot.

yes because Wenker had them fired up from the start and it really looked like we would win this until the sending off didn't it.this is the circus that is Arsenes Arsenal.that is why its Wenkers fault,we have a team of pampered limp wristed pussies and that is down to one man,the team is the mould of that prick :banghead:

I want to win the league and Cl of course, but you don't mind not winning it so much if you are challenging. We'll be 8 points behind City if they win with only 6 games gone , that's huge already when you consider their strength in depth. Then we play a weakened tam in the CL midweek so we are up against it and will finish second if we qualify at all, making the knock out stages harder. I'm soooooo mad at the moment!

He didn't stand up to him. He stood on his toe with the ref looking. Sadly, that's a straight red.

I like the way Gabriel plays and it's gutting he's now banned as I'd rather see more of him in the team before Per comes back. But it was selfish; there's ways to stand up for yourself without gifting pricks like Costa and Mike Dean the opportunity to send you off.

Strong challenges and reducer tackles are the way to do it!!! 8) ... not standing on his toes with the ref watching!

The match was getting interesting with end to end stuff before Costagate. Costa ruined what was shaping up to be a good contest.

Poor from Arsenal. Didn't look like scoring from limited chances. We did not have a plan to deal with Costa, it was obvious what would happen so we should have a plan to make sure Costa walks not one of our players.

Mate, he did all of that in the first half and that's precisely why Costa got wound up to start with. That's the irony of the whole thing...he had Costa bossed and was pissing their lot off with some proper old skool defending. Costa's reaction to Koscielny was because he was being roughed up for once and if Dean did his job properly, Costa would have walked first and everyone on here who is quick to hang Gabriel would have been praising him to high heaven

At least Wenger has held his ground admirably at the post match. Slagged Costa off big time, had a go at Dean as well (be asked to explain that no doubt). Actually conceded that it was naivety (my word) to get drawn into retaliating. Anyway, nothing to see here, no case to answer for Wenger, time to focus on holding on to that treasured 4th spot.

By the way, all this 'non hand shake' bollocks. I'd prefer Wenger just ended it all once and for all and told the press exactly what he thinks of Maureen i.e. "He has spent 10 years personally insulting me, I hate the cheating antics that his teams display and I have no intention of ever shaking his hand again"

End off - put that in your media conference and fuck off

Manager reaction
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal
Posted at 15:01
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "I would not like to be Mike Dean tonight. Costa twice should be sent off. He hits him in the face in purpose. In every game he has aggravation and he gets away with it because of the weakness of the referee. We knew before the game he is only looking at that.

"Gabriel should not have responded at all but the two sending offs for us and Costa staying on the pitch is a shame."
