As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Top Londoner wrote:Sebastian Squillaci’s time at Arsenal is up, but after a number of stories linking him with newly promoted Bastia, their president has admitted his club, like many others in France, do not have the financial ability to make a deal happen.
According to Pierre-Marie Geronimi, there is too much of a gap between salaries in England and France, as well as taxation issues which make it impossible to bring players like Squillaci back to Ligue 1.
“Sebastien Squillaci is an extraordinary player who plays for Arsenal where he has one year contract,” he told RMC. “I can not even give you his salary. He is one of the players who are out of reach for us and for many clubs in France.
“Times are tough for everyone,” he continued. “It will be increasingly difficult for the French players playing abroad to return to France. There is too much difference today between a wage in France and the English salaries, and the tax incentives in France will not be made for the benefit of these type of players.”
While some will choose to view this as a sign that Arsenal are paying salaries that are too high, it’s more an indication of the huge financial dichotomy that exists between a top tier Premier League club and a relatively small French side.
Squillaci, like Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott, is in a position where his contract expires in 2013, and it might take a gesture from Arsenal in order to make a move elsewhere seem more attractive. There is an indication that Arsenal are willing to waive a transfer fee so let’s wait and see what happens.
I find it really strange that a man at the tail end of his career would be content to just waste away like Winston Bogarde and collect his paycheque. With the big money owners (City, Chelsea, PSG) currently giving out ridiculous contracts to players that don't play - we will have a whole new generation of players who will forever be on loan because they don't want to give up their high-paying salaries.
They should implement redundancy laws for football players

To be fair mate he was a free transfer hence the wages, there are worse players earning more in the prem! The world has gone mad! 45k a week for doing fuck all! Disgusting but as I sit here unemployed after being made redundant I'm ultimately jealous

Give Wenger a call - he may replace RvP with you seeing as you're on a free

the fundamental problem with The Arsenal's wage policy is that we play these young players and prospects as if they are already superstars. When these kids and french africans have won something meaningful, then that's the time to give them a wage rise.
i have no problem paying 100-120k for 'big' players so we can compete with the best in Europe, but that has to be offset by reasonable wages for the kids, prospects and bit part players.
that moses kid at Wigan was offered by the an improved contract of 20k, so i'd guess he was on 15. so Chamakh was on three times that - moses last year got 8 goals. chamakh got 1.
Said all along we wouldn't be able to shift the pile of shite wenker has accumulated at the club and those chickens are def coming home to roost Even the worlds self proclaimed best striker is still here despite being lnked with dozens of clubs this summer
Re affelay, I don't see us going for another winger unless we get shot of either or both of the worst wingers (walnut & forehead) currently plying their trade in the premier league If we got shot of walnut for 15m and got this guy for half that then that would be excellent business although I would suggest he is more suited to a 4-4-2 system

seemed like Afellay came on as a forward for Holland...

Thanks for lying to us again, Mr. Wenger
dude
do you want us to keep Chamakh?
if not then floating imaginary interest in an attempt to create a real offer is exactly what we want
I get your point JD. I just wish that this piss taking *word censored* kept schtum. He is just twisting the knife.
Btw Gazidis. Where is the 'big news'? *word censored*

anything he can say to bring that forward is all good IMO
fans obsession with honesty is unfortunately unrealistic nowadays
Yeah but Wenger lies about everything season after season. Granted the board do it too but from someone who pretends to be loyal by turning down other teams (purely because they'd sack him after a year or two) then youd expect better from them. But expecting good things from Wenger sadly went out the window years ago.

Joking aside, good luck with the job search BR
I'm the same age, never Injured and only want 1k a week

I'd take a grand a week so that's two players Arsene gets, no fee and he saves on wages!

clearly you dislike the man (bizarrely IMO but you're obv not alone)
how do you square that with your feelings being hurt by things he says?
if what he says upsets you, don't listen. Simples.
