We have only agreed the fee with Lille we haven't yet agreed terms with the player ,paper's reporting that Psg,inter Milan, Napoli ,Atletico Madrid and Utd have all registered an interest in him.
Exactly, talking about medical...it is not a done deal yet until they agree terms with the player, seen reports Liverpool are back in for him

I would prefer Pepe to Zaha. But I would prefer a top class defender/CB to Pepe - But who is out there CB's that is) other than the much touted Maguire who for me is nowhere near the £80mill being quoted for him.

Top Class CB's are much harder to come by than attackers/ forwards ... If the club don't buy any Defenders - including Tierney - Then they must be relying on the apprentices/reserves/academy .. because Mustafi and his like are beyond awful as we all know,

Surely they cannot just leave the defence as it is ???? Can they? :?

I hope we do get Pepe, BUT only if they also sign the equivalent in defence ... But Who??? I don't know enough about to defenders to even make a guess or suggestion, but I do know maguire is not all he is said to be.

I'm just putting this out there, amybe we can't attract top defenders because we haven't got a top class squad. A top defender will look at the players he can pass the ball to and who will give him the protection he needs to play effectively. By upgrading our midfield options then maybe we can get that top class defender. There are rumours of Rugani from Juventus however I think if Tierney is signed then our defence will be effective enough this season if Holding and Bellerin can pick up where they were when they got injured. A back four of Bellerin, Holding, Sokratis and Tierney fills me with slightly more confidence than a defence with mustafi, koscielny and monreal. With Chambers, AMN, Kolasinac, Mavropanos and Medley as back up is adequate. It seems the more top quality defenders a team has the more likely the manager is to rotate which for me causes uncertainty and an unstable defence. That's why the famous back 4 were able to play so long together. A period of stability for the defence is crucial this season.

Though the famous back four were actually a five - early on O'Leary rotated in, and later on Keown did tge same when there was an injury or a man marking job needed.

Mustafi is only on the bench today.

I have high hopes for Holding - He did amazingly well against the elephant man in the FA Cup final - he reads the game well and isn't afraid to mix it. Hopefully Bellerin can find the kind of form he showed when he first played - Before wengercunt coached the defender out of him.

Although young; Bellerin, Holding and Tierney (if he joins us) could and ( I think) would grow together as a defensive unit...

Mustafi is only on the beach today.
I think he's been on the beach since he joined us. :D

If I am a centre back I would look at the other end of the pitch and see one of the most potent attacking combinations around, and be very happy that I can look to release them when I have to go long - I would also be happy to know that opposition defences will be scared shitless and drop deeper against them, thus diluting their attacking mentality as a result.
Also, signing pepe doesn't upgrade our midfield options cos he is a winger (probably in a front 3).

Lille president quoted that three UK clubs have shown interest in Pepe as well as some in Spain and Italy.
Sounds like he's looking for a little bidding war. Is 80m not enough fgs.

To be fair to the man he has said that 4 clubs had made bids that have been accepted by his club, so the only bidding war now is from whatever wages pepe is looking for

Rugani on loan or somebody like Presnel Kimpembe, who Emery has worked with at PSG, would probably be the best we can do in terms of centre back targets.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles , Quality Make-shift -Substitute RB got a lil injury in this match, HOPEFULLY...

RB position, now EMPTY...

Now up to promoted Ljungberg to have a Contingency plan from the youth squad for EVERY defensive position in the 1st team.

prolly has a youth in mind, last name...Hope.

Zech Medley 6ft3 CB under 23 Captain, thats good backup, not gona lie,

but for LB&RB...?

Youths young, weak compared to big lads like Diego Costa,

just saw a Lyon defender, Dreadlocks Rhasta, big man, shielding young Eddie off the ball.

Fair play there, but will we see this season the opposite?

Sokratis trying his best to Manager a Nursery at the back . . . & Mustafi of coarse, as Usual.

6ft2 Rugani CB from Juve linked....on LOAN...metro.uk today reported...lets hope they get thisCB & Kieran over the line....

because just now, Defenders are dropping like Flies.

Substitute RB remember.

I'd take Dani Alves on a one year contract to be Bellerin's back up.
