Re: THE WENGER THREAD
In distant 2nd place now with not a hope of challenging the chavs for the title, but somehow I can see TOF'S 4 game ban being spun by his worshippers as the reason why we fell out of the title race this season.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
4 match ban for lightly pushing away a 4th officials hands in the tunnel.
In hindsight, Wenger should have run on the pitch and put in a serious leg breaking tackle on Barton that puts him out of football for 9 months and got a 3 game ban instead.
What a waste

Wenger putting in a tackle, with his matchstick legs.....

See the effect of calmness on the sidelines, plus a bit of encouragement.
I swear to god, Wenger's antics - arguing with the 4th official, wailing his arms around like a lunatic, creates such a negative atmosphere for the players.
If he has any respect for the players, fans and club, he will learn his fuking lesson and stop acting like he does. Because its not a joke when suggesting Steve Bould was a difference. Bould's calmness allowed the players to play with free rhythm and movement. You take the nerves out of players, and they perform so much better.
Its also more evidence of just how much Wenger is not only not needed, but how he can at as a drag on the team. How much more evidence do people need before the wake up and realise Wenger is a liability? Mental strengh and calmness should come from top to bottom. But doesnt Wenger cut a pathetic figure on the sidelines? It pains me to see just how much of a nervous wreck he is. Eyes bulging, shifting in his seat, losing his composure hence the constant fighting with officials and wailing his arms around.

While acknowledging Southampton were an ideal opponent I thought there were a good few positives yesterday.. Moving the ball going forward is so much easier without Ramsey and to a lesser extent Xhaka. Ox did pick out some great passes, admittedly while under no pressure. Adelaide looked good while Maitland-Niles was OK,. Perez linked beautifully with Welbeck who in turn took his goals brilliantly. Theo got on the end of three good build ups and got the easiest hat trick imaginable.
I thought it was an enjoyable break from the tedium of Premier League games with their endless and pointless passing. Southampton did help with their line up.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
As I said on the match thread - The Old Fraud made his usual 'contribution'; a touchline ban doesn't affect him, as everything is pre-arranged anyway. Amusing to see him complaining to Primorac in the stands, just as he does to Bouldy on the bench. We really needed a stadium ban for any slight hope of seeing anything different from the usual. Preferably a ban for about three and a bit years so as to negate the inevitable extension!

I only saw the crap MotD highlights, so I don't know if Bould shouted instructions to the players or did any of the usual things that managers tend to do during a match. Did Bould give the team-talks? I see that the substitutions came on at pretty much the usual times.
I think TOF's continued behaviour during games is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the club, both for his lack of instructions to the players, non existent team-talks and his childish moaning reactions to the officials. I also hate that he hasn't been banned more often for that. A ban for four games was not enough. It is never acceptable to lay hands on a match official, regardless of their competence or decisions.
Despite the hatred of Bouldy here, I can't help but wish for a stadium ban for TOF that would have let Bouldy actually manage the team for the games that TOF is banned from. We may have learned a lot about the situation in the team. Would they have reacted better to actually being managed and directed during a game, as opposed to TOF's standard 'do nothing' approach? It would also make it clear that literally any other manager could get more of of these players that TOF does. To hell with all this 'calmness' shit. We need an actual manager in the Arsenal dugout that will encourage the team when necessary and also leave them to it if things are going well.

all that behaviour is born of frustration, he has no clue idea how to get a situation back in controlWilson wrote:See the effect of calmness on the sidelines, plus a bit of encouragement.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
You nailed it Red, that is exactly what it is....he sits there helpless as the situation gets away from him, so unable to come up with any answers, he lashes out at everybody within earshot. What makes it worse is that there is no leader on the field either so the players, when things are going wrong, look for guidance. As I said there is nobody on the field so the players look to the sidelines...only to see this panic stricken, out of control, stick figure in a massive coat screaming at everyone around him. What a spectacle...week after week after......Redarmy wrote:all that behaviour is born of frustration, he has no clue idea how to get a situation back in controlWilson wrote:See the effect of calmness on the sidelines, plus a bit of encouragement.

Good post.
It made me think about AW's selfish touchline behaviour and realise that it's all about him, when it should be about organising and motivating the team.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Catch 22 really. If Wenger sits on the bench people moan about his lack of passion. If he goes mental in the technical area he is a negative influence. Can't win really.GranadaJoe wrote:Wilson wrote:See the effect of calmness on the sidelines, plus a bit of encouragement.

Not sure Bouldy really did a lot but Southampton were so poor he didn't actually have to. Even the substitution looked pre-arranged.
Suspect he will have a tougher time on Saturday.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
wenger going mental in the technical area is usually him bullying the fourth official which does fuck all good when he should be directing his instructions to players instead. we ain't asking for much from him, luckily bouldy seems to have a calming influence and hopefully it suits us when we go to the bridge next week.
