Suspect his attitude cost him the move. Wenger clearly not impressed with his sulking act against Spain.
We can't talk about Arshavin being lazy and having a bad attitude and then moan when Wenger doesn't sign another one!
On that Metro story, they've twisted what Grimandi actually said. He never said they knew he was leaving. He said they wanted players in incase he went. There is a difference

Suspect his attitude cost him the move. Wenger clearly has his excuse for not spending the dosh.

Etienne Capoue to be bought instead?
Doubt it. I think Wenger will stick with Coquelin, who to be fair, was excellent last season.

With all due respect quartz, he is another unproven c**t and I for one am sick of buying these numptys
I reckon we NEED a defensive midfielder because Coquelin may be needed at right back until Sagna is fit, so would you go for Tiote who whilst not an out and out defensive midfielder, can impose himself physically a bit?
Might cost £12M.
Fellaini has been mentioned but I think he is inconsistent and more of an all round midfielder.
Vertonghen has gone to Spurs.
So maybe De Jong as a part exchange for Van Persie?
To add to what augie said, Capoue is also very much in the "Song" mould of defensive midfielders, i.e. constantly abandonds his defensive position. Not really what we need.
The best one we could get is Javi Martinez; pipe dream though.

As much as I would like de Jong, I couldn't stand van persie going to city!
I reckon Wenker never had any intention of signing M'Vila - even if he (M'Vila) hadn't thrown a strop, Wenker would have found some excuse....With each passing transfer window and each season, I just feel like we're all being played....It 's obvious Wenker will do anything - make up stories...lay down false trails and rumours just to avoid spending actual BIG Money!...

I rate Coquelin as a player who can win a tackle and then keep it simple, and who keeps his position on the pitch more often than Song.
But I fear he will be used as right back until Sagna is fit, leaving us with Song and Arteta central midfield, with Diaby as main replacement (a concern) and Ramsey too (jury still out).
Wilshere might not be back until late September, Yennaris is unproven at top level.
Perhaps The Ox or even Bartley can be used if needed?
Quartz, I agree about Song keeping his discipline.
There was a game, (I cannot remember which one) where Wenger spent the whole of the second half screaming blue murder at Song to stay in his own half, and give cover to our defence. We were 2-0 at half time and I think that we managed to win it.
I also recall that, in the early days, Fabregas and Flamini seemed to be attached by a 12 inch piece of elastic, a bit like me and my shadow.
