As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I reckon we NEED a defensive midfielder because Coquelin may be needed at right back until Sagna is fit, so would you go for Tiote who whilst not an out and out defensive midfielder, can impose himself physically a bit?
Might cost £12M.
Fellaini has been mentioned but I think he is inconsistent and more of an all round midfielder.
Vertonghen has gone to Spurs.
So maybe De Jong as a part exchange for Van Persie?
I doubt Coquelin will play at rb now Jenkinson is fit.
They are both inexperienced but I'm sure he will go with the specialist in that position.

Suspect his attitude cost him the move. Wenger clearly not impressed with his sulking act against Spain.

Suspect his attitude cost him the move. Wenger clearly has his excuse for not spending the dosh.
Agreed!
Our interest in Mvilla was always suspicious to me considering it is planted just before our WBA game.

and we're using "specialist" in the loosest possible way.
Was the recruitment of Giroud made to compensate for his Van Persie’s departure? Yes, we worked to avoid being cornered.
You're completely missing the point of what he's saying.
1. Its saying that signing Giroud was a way to ensure that if RVP did decide to go they had a striker in place rather than suddenly scratching about for one, with us being quoted huge fees due to the money we would have recieved and clubs knowing we needed one. That's not a stupid thing to do, its an insurance policy, and a smart one. People moan about last the last transfer window, and now you're moaning about Arsenal acting to rectify the situation and avoid a debacle.
2. Its not saying, that if RVP left, another striker wouldn't be purchased

1. That's what it says...whether it's the whole truth is another matter. Scenario: They already knew that van persie wanted to leave, and that there is no way they would run down the contract of a player of such value (there is little evidence to suggest otherwise). Therefore, they bought this guy in the knowledge that they would make twice as much on an incoming transfer fee, and reducing the like for like wage bill. Plus with a ton of other potential offloads, and the promotion of younger/squad players.
