Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Today's papers have stories about the club drawing up a shortlist of names to take over as they FEAR Wanker will leave in the summer. FEAR, FEAR, FEAR. FEAR in capital letters. FEAR him leaving. The message from the club's propaganda department is clear, love him or he'll go. If he goes, FEAR the future. It's pure Furher complex.
And fuck off with all this fear bollox. The club shouldn't be fearing it, we should be fucking embracing it and pushing him the door, right now.

That just shows to me how stuck in the rut as are - with our weak mentality, nothing much changes.Wilson wrote:The Mirror have run our season with Mourinho, Klopp, Conte, Pochettino and Pep as our manager through Football Manager simulation. And our finishing ranges were 3-5th.
So this is the latest argument, 'dont sack Wenger, because we will finish no different', as per the scientific research of...........football manager.
Perhaps its light hearted, but you can never tell these days.
We are going to finish 3rd to 6th this season with him, so we are in no way any worse off and a new manager an only improve and offload the "natural waste"
Soon be up to 1886 pages, how ironic.

I say judge him in May and hopefully by then he will have tied Theo Theo and Aaron Rambo Ramsey down to long term contracts

Is "hopefully" a euphemism for "we all fucking know"?

Everybody knows this club was born in 1996. Don't worry we will soon be on that page!

FM has never been that realistic though, I haven't played it for about 4-5 years now but played most of the earlier versions, they get a fair bit right but some infamous LOL's go to Anthony Le Tallec, according to FM the next Zidane, and Ibrahima Bakoyoko (who?!) the next Henry, as for results it tends to be stupidly biased towards home wins, win 5-0 at home lose 0-5 away sort of thing, it might have changed now but I doubt it this pattern was in all the earlier versions.StuartL wrote:That just shows to me how stuck in the rut as are - with our weak mentality, nothing much changes.Wilson wrote:The Mirror have run our season with Mourinho, Klopp, Conte, Pochettino and Pep as our manager through Football Manager simulation. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Funny how Wenger always comes out with this line about judging him in May, then nothing more is said after that, from that we have to take that top 4 is the only ambition the board have, actions as they say... most worrying of all a fair proportion of gooners seem to just accept that and although I wouldn't say they were happy, they seem to be content enough to bimble ( is that a word?) along like this, no wonder we are stuck in groundhog day.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:I say judge him in May and hopefully by then he will have tied Theo Theo and Aaron Rambo Ramsey down to long term contracts
PS. see you next year when I'll post exactly the same message (and the year after).

That's a work of fiction though, right? There was no Arsenal before Wenger.Gunner Rob wrote:Last night I dug out an old book I have got.Kvltman wrote:I don't see how that bears any relevance.StuartL wrote:That just shows to me how stuck in the rut as are - with our weak mentality, nothing much changes.Wilson wrote:The Mirror have run our season with Mourinho, Klopp, Conte, Pochettino and Pep as our manager through Football Manager simulation. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
There you go....everyone now get behind the team for our VT
straight from wankers mouth..."TOP FOUR" thats it ....thats the Arsenals ambition....
"You fight as far as you can," he said when asked if everyone has given up chasing strong favourites Chelsea for the title.
"We are in a double fight because we are in a fight to be in the top four. But when you are in a competition you fight, you do not go home and analyse rationally 'if they win here they have three points'.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I've seen it written a lot recently that Wenger leaving would leave a massive void meaning that several roles would need to be filled, most notably - Director of Football, a Sporting Director and someone to deal with transfers.
Now I know that Dick Law deals with transfers - and what a magnificent job he does too
so I could see why that role might change if a new man comes in, but can anyone tell me who the Director of Football or Sporting Director is at United, Chelsea, Liverpool, City, Spurs etc. etc.??
Excuse my footballing ignorance but I haven't a clue who fills those positions at those clubs or if they even have someone in those roles. Would you just not have Gazidis acting as a buffer between the manager and board, the manager identifying the players he wants to sign and Dick Law or A.N. other trying to make it happen? Why do you need a director of football or sporting director?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
For me a manager should NEVER get involved in the transfer negotiation process or have ANY influence in player evaluation or the transfer fee or wage agreement. The manager should identify the players he wants to sign, hand the list to the chairman or the board, and they (or whoever has the specific job) should then go off and try to sign the players.rodders999 wrote:I've seen it written a lot recently that Wenger leaving would leave a massive void meaning that several roles would need to be filled, most notably - Director of Football, a Sporting Director and someone to deal with transfers.

It always pissed me off that Bruce Rioch tried to claim he signed DB10. I had heard numerous rumours that Wenger at some football conference had suggested to David Dein that Bergkamp was unhappy in Italy and was very "gettable" and David Dein then did the deal and basically told Rioch "here you go, we signed Bergkamp".
Ian Wright has since confirmed that David Dein signed Bergkamp - and yes I know Wrighty has a long standing hatred of Rioch but I think on this occasion he is being accurate rather than spiteful.
And let's be honest, for all of Dein's ills (proposing a Wembley move, the gentrification of Arsenal etc), whilst he was at the club we signed some cracking players.
