As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
The sad thing about these days of all seater stadiums is that the days of the massive away support are pretty much restricted to the odd cup game.
Anyone remember Villa away in the league cup (quarter final?) back in the 80's....think we took something like 12,000 there that day! I also remember one of my early away games - Liverpool in the league cup semi final (1980?). Taking maybe 15,000 to Anfield for a night game....!
And what about the European finals in Brussels (1980) and Copenhagen (1994). Completely took over both grounds..... Paris - probably 50,000 with the majority of those having to make do with the bars as no tickets.
I really think we have unbelievable support - home and away. Look at the attendance last night. How many other team would get that for their 2nd most important domestic cup competition??
We're probably in the top 10 in Europe. Just a little on the quiet side at times !

I agree mate. Our support is slagged off. The simple facts are that away we are top notch. At home, the hardcore are diluted by tourist slags and JCLs.

Exactly - look at Old Trafford tonight for example. I haven't seen so many gaps since Charlie Adam last smiled.
But the majority on here will have you believe that Anfield, St James Park etc are much better. I've been to all the major grounds in this country several times and the fact is that you can hear a pin drop at all of them. Most of the other big clubs boo their own players a lot more quickly than we do too.
Clubs like Portsmouth and Stoke generate more noise because they are provincial clubs where the fan base hasn't been priced out by their owners and with small grounds and the same faces each week. We are not that club but neither are United, Chelsea, City, Liverpool or most of Europe's big clubs
A final is always something else...also knock out stage...we've been to the CL final 97 in Munich with more fans then Juventus...if the UEFA would allow away fans more then 5% of the capacity we would by it. So many BVB fans could not travel to London due to ticket regulation.
Tomas -- point taken, I misunderstood you, and I can't really argue with what you said; I would contend however that none of us were on holiday like you lot, it was just a normal week day for the vast majority of Gooners so we weren't exactly going to be boozing all day and trying to outsing you in Central London, were we?
The day that trophies are awarded for the loudest singing is the day I'll worry about being outsung by German tourists or by a bunch of neanderthals like Stoke with their witty "Yer gonna win fock all"
Perhaps if the club started addressing important things like the underinvestment in the team, they might just find it creates bigger games with more at stake, more excitement and a better feeling amongst the fans. Atmospheres develop naturally when everyone's happy; which means not being fucking taken for granted by our owners
No worries we had a great day in London (some of us even more days) we had a fantastic week with the win against Munich and the Derby win against the Blues...only the Arsenal result was not good...actually we have been really bad on our away games this time and I think the key was the Marseille game...but we will improve. We are now top of the league and we will travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach (the little Borussia as we call them ) this Saturday for the top game...position 1 against 2. I've been at the training ground today and the squad looks really well and I think the Arsenal game was very important for them...and also for us fans. Like I said it was a great day, hanging out, drinking beer, walk to the stadium, supporting the team.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Ironically I fear that you will be in the Champions League next year, and we may not even be in the Europa League.
I will keep an eye out for your results. You may even become my "German Team"

Well, the Greeks would win it all then
You are going a different way...you had I think two British players in the team. You had non of your youth team in the squad. It is not as bad as when Inter Milan won the title with no Italian player in the squad but it goes towards that direction. The problem for Arsenal I think will start next season. You probably will not make it for the CL qualification and then you will get a money issue.

Hi, yepp could be. I think we will make it under the first three; actually the team looks pretty well right now.
Like I wrote it I think Arsenal has to really focus on their league campaign. If you miss the European games you also have a problem attracting good players...besides the money issues.
Same for Arsenal...I'll keep an eye on your guys
All the best for the rest of the season and please...try to win in Piraeus

I think we will win in Greece. A Chamakh hat-trick.

Tomas - you know that, I know that, 60000 people that fill the ground know that. Sadly the guy who owns 67% of the shares knows about as much about football as I do about NFL, and our manager wants to prove to the world that Chamakh and Park are the next Villa and Messi
Good luck with your season. We might see you in a pre-season game sometime
