Southampton away

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Gutted about the result, but still looking forward to Sunday against Hull .

Honestly don't think we were even out-tacticed today. Don't get me wrong our set up was predictably ineffective and failed to change but they just played better football than us in every way.

On MOTD Keown has used the terms (about our defending) "Comical" and Embarrassing" and "Time and Time Again"...wonder if Wonka will see it - if so he'll probably ban him from the bowl being the despot he is.

What got me about this one is that the players and in particular Coquelin and Chambers didn’t seem to know where they were supposed to play.
The OX, Rosicky seemed to switch sides all the time and we just didn’t seem to know what to do when not in possession .
More than ever we look like 11 random players thrown on with no game plan whatsoever.
When we did get it down the wings we mostly had 1 or 2 people under 6 foot in the box and the threat was easily dealt with by the big lumps at the back 4
Southamption .
They double teamed Sanchez and OX who ran all day into dead ends with no outlets !
Conversely Southampton who looked alert, and highly organised were made to look like world beaters and some more clinical
finishing would have seen 5 or 6 go in .

It seems that Wenger has lost the plot the dressing room and semblance of self respect !

Was the bloke who had a go at Wenger one of ours as the media suggest? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... mtpon.html

So what's new. The French bloke is tactically clueless. Any manager worth is salt will beat Wenger and Arsenal.
He has over the years taken good young players and practically ruined them by playing them out of position and by failing to show them any idea of how to "play" the game, tactically, positionally or as a team unit.
If you read Bergkamps book, as heavy going as it is, he tells how Wenger sends his teams out to let them decide how to play that particular game depending on how it's panning out but with No semblance of a plan.
We'll win more than we lose but unfortunately for us we are going nowhere fast while he stays in charge. We are more Newcastle or Stoke than Chelsea or City.

Just watched the highlights on MOD.

Defensively inept at best.

Pathetic display - 'The Boy Wonder' did feck all when he came on. The only good thing I can add is I'm old enough to remember a worst side/performance than this. :barscarf: :barscarf:

I thought we looked OK for most of the first half, Rosicky definitely adds pace and movement to our midfield, but Kos and Chesney's Chuckle Brothers impressions did for us.

Good in midfield, not clinical enough up front and clueless and comical at the back. It's been like groundhog day for many years.

We're all (Board and owner included) watching our gentle decline into a Europa League team.

It's always interesting to watch the game with someone who watches football in their country but doesn't intensely follow the premier League.

"Many tactical problems" was the upshot.

I think the first half we looked generally tired and were just keeping the ball in our slow, no ideas mode. Cazorla should have put that one away, and he just doesn't score enough for his position and the positions he gets in. Waste.

Koscielny looked like an accident all game and I can't decide if it's his brain freeze or whther the injury is hampering him to the extent that he let's some guy get the wrong side in a standard defenisve position.

Szcesny either needs to get better and keep his mouth shut until he stops costing us points.

All this aside, Southampton were the better side and fully deserved the points. We do not have a strong enough, balanced enough side to compete at the top table. And Wenger knows (it).
