Obviously we were up against a dreadful Leicester side and I'm not suggesting Merino is a solution to our striking options, what I will say is he showed composure for both goals and particularly the second where he made sure to stay onside, so i'd have him ahead of sterling or a novice from the bench.
Out of curiosity if Havertz had been playing would he have
a. got into those positions for the goals
b. scored the first header
c. scored the second
d. fluffed both opportunities

He clipped a good ball through for the Trossard fresh air shot and then did well at the edge of our box to to wriggle free and release Calafiori in the move that led to Merino’s second but other than that it was another piss poor performance from him.
It’s absolutely incredible that we’re still in contention (however slim the chances are) despite our best player being crocked for half the season and Odegaard’s form going off a cliff this year. Both Saka and Odegaard were in the PL team of the season last year and we’ve had to rely without both for huge chunks of the season yet are still in the mixer. Incredible.
Odegaard doesn’t look well to me with the gaunt features, he obviously is because every fart is analysed by the club but the drop off in form from last year he been massively alarming. It’s been a shockingly disappointing season from him to put it mildly, he’s still Rolls Royce for me but the longer he’s in this rut the more worried I get.
He’ll obviously benefit from having an actual striker to feed next season but with 14 odd games left this time around he needs to pull the fucking finger out and start contributing.

The knock on effect of this lack of January signing nonsense is the pressure we are now about to heap on young Ethan. He looks one of the best prospects in many years but we're going to get a Wilshere moment soon and he's already been injured once this year.
