Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
On a side note who remembers before the days of the internet where you used to find out transfer gossip on Club Call, remember finding out Coventry had turned down our bid for Dion Dublin and we were interested in Chris Sutton from Norwich City....all for the bargain of 60p a minute, how times change!

Cesc Fabregas: Barcelona boss says midfielder wants to stay
Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas does not want to leave the club this summer to return to the Premier League, says manager Tito Vilanova.
Manchester United lodged a £25m bid for the 26-year-old former Arsenal captain on Monday but, according to the Barca boss, the player wants to stay for now.
"I know he has received offers from other teams," said Vilanova.
"But Cesc has told me he wants to stay here. He has told me it is his dream to stay with Barcelona."
Vilanova added: "He doesn't want to go to other teams for money reasons or playing time. He knows there is competition for places here, but his decision is to stay. I am relaxed about the situation."
United have yet to receive a formal response to their offer, which is understood to be some way below Barcelona's valuation.
"It is a good sign that the club gets offers for our players," continued Vilanova. "It shows we have players other teams want. But Fabregas wants to stay."
Fabregas, a Spain international who helped his country win the World Cup and become European champions twice, came through Barcelona's academy before Arsenal signed him as a 16-year-old in 2003.
He developed into one of the London club's key players under manager Arsene Wenger before becoming Arsenal captain in November 2008.
He spent eight years with the Gunners, playing 303 games and scoring 57 goals, but returned to the Nou Camp when he signed a five-year deal with Barcelona in a £25.4m move in August 2011.
He has since helped the Catalan club win the Copa del Rey in 2011-12 and La Liga in 2012-13.
Fabregas has played 96 times in two seasons with Barcelona, including 60 league games, but has rarely featured in his preferred midfield role, with Xavi, 33, and Andres Iniesta, 29, ahead of him.

Hull City want Danny Graham and Nicklas Bendtner
Hull City are hopeful of agreeing a season-long loan deal for Sunderland striker Danny Graham.
Graham, 27, has struggled at the Stadium of Light, failing to score in 13 matches since joining in January.
"He's a very good player who hasn't had the best of times. It's something we're looking at," Hull boss Steve Bruce told BBC Radio Humberside.
Bruce also confirmed the club are interested in Arsenal's Denmark international striker Nicklas Bendtner.
Bendtner, 25, who spent last season on loan with Serie A winners Juventus, has previously played under Bruce for both Birmingham City and Sunderland.
"I've had Nicklas twice and he's a good player but he's on a lot of money at Arsenal," said Bruce.
"I can't see us being able to get anywhere near that with salary levels, but we'll keep trying and he's another player we're looking at."
Bruce has made signing a striker a priority and recently missed out on Burnley striker Charlie Austin after the player failed a medical.
"We've got to be patient, because the big clubs haven't made moves yet," Bruce explained.
"We're vitally aware that scoring was our Achilles heel last year, but the right players haven't become available just yet.
"We're hopeful that when they do become available we can act."

Somebody posted a link a few pages back stating that the first option means if another bid is accepted, Arsenal have a first option at €30m even if the accepted bid is higher.nut flush gooner wrote:Three english clubs including arsenal interested in cesc, so much for first refusal. I also remember phoning a premium rate number on a pay phone to catch the penalty shoot-out in the Arsenal v ManUre 1993 charity shield

When I was about 11 or 12 I rang said club call line. I put the phone down and unbeknown to me the call never ended! All day and night whenever you picked up the phone it was club call 24/7 for 2 days! This Is The Daybreak wrote:On a side note who remembers before the days of the internet where you used to find out transfer gossip on Club Call, remember finding out Coventry had turned down our bid for Dion Dublin and we were interested in Chris Sutton from Norwich City....all for the bargain of 60p a minute, how times change!

In the end bt had to come and sort it out but luckily they accepted full responsibility as the bill in the end was near on a grand

Stay tuned for more interesting stories about my childhood!

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
you know worst thing about a possible move to man utd for cesc is that you can bet that in two years time they will come knocking for Jack too, imagine that, talk about a massive humiliation, and you know Wenker would sanction it too

I also remember phoning a premium rate number on a pay phone to catch the penalty shoot-out in the Arsenal v ManUre 1993 charity shield- my 50p bought me just enough time to hear Wrighty miss his penalty, but not long enough to work out what the score was or even what number penalty it was

Worked out that they had a long introduction to the call to make you pay more for basically a sensationalist headline that was reduced to a very humdrum story.
Preferred to stick to The Evening Standard, Ceefax page 302 and fanzines Arsenal Echo Echo, Highbury High, One Nil Down Two One Up and The Gooner.

Stop getting het up about things you THINK MIGHT happen. Cesc isn't going to United. Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I read the quotes from Villanova about Cesc told him that he wants to stay but nowhere do I read anything about Tito and barca wanting him to stay - sometimes it's not what you say but what you don't say and that doesn't read like a "not for sale" message to me

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Maybe but all the moronic glory hunters read is "United bid for Fabregas" and are too blind to see beyond that - it will placate them for a while until they realise it isn't going to happen, by which time United will be strongly linked with somebody else.REB wrote:northbank123 wrote:It's not difficult to believe... just that they must have known they had no hope of a £25m offer being seriously considered. Although I don't work in the game I'm sure there are more effective channels than making a public derisory bid. Smacks of Moyes and the club trying to appease their 'fans', many of whom are getting restless at the lack of quality and worried about the likes of Citeh and Chelsea improving significantly next year.I Hate Hleb wrote:Just what is so difficult to believe in the story that Man United would want to sign a quality player like Cesc if Barca were willing to sell?![]()
It's not as if they haven't got any money sloshing around or are afraid to pay big bucks to sign quality players - something that can't be said about those in charge at our club!

surely by making a bid like this thinking that it will fail will only piss the fans off more, look at us, bidding but getting no where and the fans feeling fucked off about it.
Dunno, maybe I'm wrong and it's genuine, but it all seems to fit together a bit well for me.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Don't post much anymore but my opinion for what it's worth. Sick to death of club 'PR' posts in silly attempt to appease supporters. if Liverpool want £40m for Suarez then why do we go in below if serious desire. Ditto re Fellani,Higuain,Rooney etc etc. Not saying we want them but if any genuine ambition for any of these players then surely, just do it?. Guess I'm missing the point.
