Interesting that you mention Rambo Campbell. For me though, Bony is not a patch on what Campbell was. But the Giroud comparison is very relevant. Campbell mostly played second striker to Wrighty in a 4-4-2 and he was decent in that role but not world class. Similarly I reckon Giroud would be a better player as a second striker to a top first striker in a 4-4-2.nut flush gooner wrote:Bony is like a modern day Kevin Campbell, although I had a lot of time for sooper kev as a gooner and a human being. A couple of seasons ago Bony was one of my first choice signings and gave one of the best CF displays I've seen at the Bowl. If it was the fit and interested version from Swansea then I'd say we'd have a very good striker on our hands. If its the fella who has been lumbering around playing second fiddle to Aguero and co at Citeh then we're about to spunk 30 million

For me, it's a case of Bony has been found out to be a second rate striker. Even that season when he looked great at our place he was very inconsistent and often looked shite, and lazy, in other games. The real Bony is the lazy poor quality one at Citeh, not the one that we saw deliver the goods once at our place. A good indicator of his true ability is the fact he's 27 and in a 9 year pro career he has only ever hit the magic 20+ league goals a season marker once. In Holland. For Vitesse.SteveO 35 wrote:A couple of seasons ago Bony was one of my first choice signings and gave one of the best CF displays I've seen at the Bowl. I'd rather burn £30million than spend it on Bony.

I loved sooper Kev, he was much maligned by gooners of that era. I always gave him a wide berth because he came through the ranks. He had one thing in abundance that Giroud does not, pace. I just cannot see Giroud being effective in any formation at Arsenal. Second strikers need vision and guile, ala Bergy - Giroud has none of those traits.DB10GOONER wrote:Interesting that you mention Rambo Campbell. Re: Is it time for a Summer Transfer Window Thread Yet?
Don't agree. Giroud has a decent touch, guile, and vision, and can link the play very effectively, better than Campbell had and did. To say Giroud hasn't got any of those traits in his game is being deliberately disingenuous and letting your hatred cloud your judgement. He has shown those abilities in numerous games. Giroud's main two weaknesses are finishing and pace and those are why he is not and never will be a top first striker. But pace is not required of a second striker. Also, comparing any prospective second striker with Bergkamp is silly - who is playing that second striker role to that level today?nut flush gooner wrote:I loved sooper Kev, he was much maligned by gooners of that era. duh,Henry is good friends with Wenger, why would he slag him off,the guy was ruthless on the pitch but obviously has morals off of it,if he was all gob and bad mouthing Arsenal you'd slag him off,he keeps quiet and you slag him off.Henry clearly has respect for Wenger but what can he do,if he was to say he needs to go he would be banned from the emirates,it aint rocket science, thats why he sits on the fence.would you prefer him to be like Roy keane a complete tool with no friends who goes around treading on toes for what?? Henry was working with the youth team for free, its obvious he loves the club he isn't going to run the regime down no more than you or I would in his position, what do you want him to be like, a kind of Boris Johnson type who stabs his mate in the back??DB10GOONER wrote:This 100%. How is he stuck in the middle? He doesn't work for AFC. He works for Sky.
The job of a pundit is to offer truthful opinions and insights on the game. Not telling the truth because you're mates with somebody or feel loyalty to a player or club is dishonest and a dereliction of your responsibilities.
Someone like Souness is willing to strongly criticise players and clubs he is associated with. Even Carragher does. Neville's a bit more reticent but still more forthright than TH14.
TH14 can't need the money, so why's he there?
For the attention - I don't care who disagrees with me on this, but henry has always been about henry. Despite winning a shed load of trophies with us, he legged it to barca the very minute he felt that we were no longer gonna challenge for the big trophies. Remember his treatment of reyes when a young prince threatened to take his crown ? People with hiv have been shunned and made an outcast less than reyes was by henry![]()
I don't mind him fcuking off to barca back then, but to listen to some of our fans, you would think that he bleeds Arsenal

I guess £6m per season from sky buys a lot of morals eh

Can you imagine the commotion it would create if he banned henry from the corporate cesspool ? It is easy for wenker to be the bullying arsehole and ban Jackie oatley without any blowback, but to ban the clubs all time top scorer would create an almighty shitfest on wenker

Cool your jets there buddy. If you are going to accuse me of something, then at least accuse me of something I've actually written. I've said on here repeatedly that I have no real problem with ex-players not sticking the knife in because they know Wenger in a completely different way than we do - to them he is the man that brought them success and in many cases extended their careers. Alot of them are personal friends with him. They will also meet him at all kinds of functions throughout the year and they have to face him.markyp wrote:duh,Henry is good friends with Wenger, why would he slag him off,the guy was ruthless on the pitch but obviously has morals off of it,if he was all gob and bad mouthing Arsenal you'd slag him off,he keeps quiet and you slag him off.Henry clearly has respect for Wenger but what can he do,if he was to say he needs to go he would be banned from the emirates,it aint rocket science, thats why he sits on the fence.would you prefer him to be like Roy keane a complete tool with no friends who goes around treading on toes for what?? Also, they are mostly not Gooners, we are just a club they played for in a professional capacity. Their loyalty is to Wenger, not Arsenal. Distasteful for us, but still true. Add to that the probability that during their time under Wenger he was a father figure to many of them and possibly helped them through rough patches in their careers or indeed maybe their private lives - who knows?
It doesn't surprise me that few ex-players have a go at him. Why would they? My only point in the post you quoted is that Henry is all about Henry. Again I've no major issue with that either. Most elite level players are like that. But I don't hold with people saying that Henry was a die hard super loyal player or a Gooner. He fucked off to the whores for the benefit of one person; himself. That was his prerogative, fine, but I'm not going to laud him him for it or call it anything other than it was.

Exactly - refusing to criticise your mate whilst holding yourself out as an objective expert isn't a tremendous show of morals.

Rumours on Twitter that we made a30m bid for Mahrez, and it was rejected, and we have now gone back in with a bid of 35m
Sky sources now saying we have not made any bid for Mahrez.

Yeah think they have to get real and offer a reasonable sum (thats if they are serious and its not some kind of PR job)
If they are to achieve anything other than upset the selling club or allow other clubs to step in, they have to be realistic
