THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

"No matter what happens I will manage next season, whether it's here or somewhere else"

There's the gauntlet thrown down, there's the 2 fingered salute. Now it's time for things to get seriously ugly now.

He's staying lads. The Board love him. The owners love him. The players he overpays love him. The media love the fact he holds Arsenal back because we all know the fucking media have always hated us.

Protests? Be honest with yourselves here. Does anyone in their heart of hearts really think any of the above give a flying shit what us supporters think?

Christ, it will never end. :| :censored:

TBF if he does sign a new contract we will just have to get behind him and let's be honest we are not technically out of the CL or PL and while it's still mathematically possible I for one will give him the benefit of the doubt :barscarf:

Judge him in May 8)

I genuinely think that he couldn't handle proper protest. I really don't. His ego will not handle it.

Full credit to those who have tried so far with banners etc but lets be honest what has happened so far on a grand scale has been weak as piss.

If it was a proper protest the likes of which we've seen from many other clubs over the years then he'd walk im absolutely certain of it.

Im also fully aware there's no chance of that happening with our lot.

Its so depressing its untrue. How can I literally despise someone that managed the team that gave me the best football I will ever see in my life?

2 ways of looking at that statement to be honest.
there is the pessimistic view which naturally everyone on here has gone for
- that is to say that he will once again be here next season zzzzzz

or the optimistic view (which I am taking this morning because it is Friday and the sun is shining :D )
- that is the confirmation he will be managing next season, and if not here then that means somewhere else and that means no role upstairs and no presence at the club :barscarf:

Glass half empty for me all day long

He's just gone back to his office and is staring at his phone wondering why Barca, Madrid or Bayern haven't called yet

No offence mate but you've contradicted yourself all over that post!

I view his ego the other way. I think the problem is that Wenger is not a normal person and his ego does not respond the way most people's egos would, even nominally egotistical people. Wenger believes he is far far more intelligent than any fan, manager, player, journalist, owner, board member, ref, linesman, or 4th official. He genuinely believes in his own ability and "genius". His ego would not let him "surrender" to lesser mortals than he.

I'm not sure about the players loving him anymore if I'm honest - I'm not judging that solely on what I read in the meeja, but more on what I see on the pitch, and I see a lot of frustration amongst the players which I have never seen before :o All it takes is for it to start with one of your best players (sanchez) grumbling about how things are within the club, and you will then see several players following him - by and large players are not stupid in that they see sanchez as a winner and our best performer, and the ambitious one's will be more inclined to take his lead cos they want what he wants.

What I do believe in the meeja is the reports that players are pissed off with the special treatment that ozil is getting - rate him or not, it was clear to everybody that the ox was our best player in the cup game against Southampton and the game against the chavs. How do you think that he (and others) feel when they keep getting dropped and ozil remains a constant in the starting 11 ? I am a long standing fan of the ox, but I know that he isn't (and probably never will be) in ozil's class, but the reality is that (Wednesday night not included) he has been performing better than ozil in recent games, but is quickly sacrificed when it comes to team selection. My gripe is that I still believe that there is the makings of a good player in the ox, but he needs to get a long run of games in the team to allow him to perform well without constantly looking over his shoulder - being frequently dropped, and being moved around positionally, is not giving the guy a chance to show if he is good enough or not. Ozil seem's to be untouchable in the squad, and nobody can say that disgruntled players don't pick up on that

I'm excited.

3 months until he fucks off out of the club and manages a team in outer Mongolia, deepest Siberia, the Moon or anyone else likely to have him.

The press conference changes nothing for me - I did allow myself to get slightly excited when he was almost 30 minutes late for the conference, but deep down I really didn't expect him to say anything different than what he usually says.

Imo he is done unless he wins the league or champions league - in other words he is done 8) :barscarf:

I know what your saying and even if you are totally right i'd still like to see him feel uncomfortable at genuine protest. When I say the protest was weak as piss - I mean in terms of the amount of people that actually joined in with it.

The other option I guess is to sit and ride it out and just support the team but in a sense that gives Wenger the same easy ride hes been given to date and he doesn't deserve it. Whether protest will make any difference at all I'd still like to see it happen just to make him suffer the embarrassment of it.

I'm never totally right about anything, mate! But with this thing it is probably my natural cynicism and the last 10 years of his reign that has me convinced protest won't have any impact on him or his tenure. But that's not to say people should not try. Of course they should - if they are genuine and not just using it as a platform to launch some pathetic mini-social media "presence" or from some sad attention seeking neediness. Even if to protest only makes the protesters feel good it is worthy tbh.
