Over the past few weeks we have been rumoured to be on the verge of completing deals for mata, dann and cahill but now.......?
At the moment it seems that we are only loosely linked with players and even those that we are loosely linked with have other club's in poll position to sign them
I said earlier in the summer that I am not sure which is worse......being linked to loads of players and not buying any of them or being linked to no *word censored* cos there is an acceptance that we are gonna buy fcuk all

"Imagine the worst situation - we lose Fabregas and Nasri," stated Wenger. "You cannot convince people you are ambitious after that. You cannot pretend you are a big club.
"A big club holds onto its big players and gives a message out to all the other big clubs that they just cannot come in and take [players] away from you."
The more i read this, the the lack of transfer activity.................would be fucking laughable if it wasn't so serious.
What the fuck is going on.

I don't think it was Wenger's decision to sell both Nasri and Cesc. I think he wanted to keep them both and that this quote earlier in the summer was a swipe at Gazidis or Kroenke who didn't back him and decided to sell our best players regardless of Wenger's wishes.SPARKSY wrote:"Imagine the worst situation - we lose Fabregas and Nasri," stated Wenger. He's always been really stubborn over Cesc especially, it doesn't make sense to me to buckle now, when he still had years left on his deal.

I don't doubt that Wenger wouldn't willingly have sold Nasri, Cesc....or Clichy. But he must take most of the blame for failing time and time again to bring in the players we need. We needed at least 3 experienced players in key positions before their departures and he has brought in none! Gervinho, Jenkinson, Chamberlein? All decent prospects/squad players but none address the weaknesses from last season!worthing_gooner wrote:I don't think it was Wenger's decision to sell both Nasri and Cesc. Exactly, Wenger would gladly keep players who desperately don't want to be here, even if it affects their performance, just because he is stubborn and convinced that all his babies love Arsenal.
Fact is, after selling Nasri, we will have enough money to buy Mata and Hazard, two guys who could well surpass the level that Nasrigas reached, but despite Wenger saying he's not afraid to spend, we all know that won't happen and well end up with one or two cheaper French/Africans. Wenger is so predictable these days, on and off the pitch.

I do wonder if the club are distancing themselves from Wenger a little. He quite clearly didn't want to sell Fab and Nasri, which is why he said what he did but it seems he has been overruled by the owner/board.
In the past, we have not had one majority shareholder but several and this allowed Wenger to do pretty much as he pleased.
Now we have one "owner" he has to answer to him and as such i think a lot of his power may have been taken away.

This is true as well.swimmer1 wrote:Then the one owner should tell Wenger to fucking spend and replace the players we have sold and postions that are in need to strengthen.
I do think they are distancing themselves from Wenger. If Kroenke ever made a statement he would be obliged to come out in support of Wenger. Gazidis has recently stated that Wenger is accountable to the fans (pass the buck!).
That means if Wenger refuses to spend as it appears is the case, and the fans get on his back again, Kroenke has the perfect excuse to get rid of him and bring someone else in.
It doesn't make any sense though that Kroenke would just allow the team to be weakened like this because if we drop out the top four and so out of top european football, we'd be on a slippery slope, losing our remaining best players and unable to attract more, and so his share price would fall through the floor.
