THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Looking on the positive side, this is the first time in fuck knows how many years, that the club have come out and issued a statement on a managerial matter. This is acknowledgement that things are wrong and this is the first sign that they have acted upon fans' discontent. The statement is purely neutral but without sounding too optimistic, if he was staying, they would have said so.

It's also further evidence that we need to keep the pressure up. Keep the protests going.

In August it will be 9 years since I started this about Wenger! It reads like a post written today in places.

The board need time to replace so if your going tell us by end of this month or will make the decision for you. Simple

Wenger is not the one living the same day over & over...that's us. He is the one who is creating the same day over and over. We're the one's living in the nightmares he is creating.

I'm sorry to rain (nay, shit) all over your parade mate... But I think it's the opposite... they are placating the protesters (and trying to diffuse the media fuss) by saying "Hey look, we aren't ignoring you, no need to do that again..." and then they'll up the anti-Sanchez smear campaign in the press to the extent that every single loss was down to his bad attitude. These vermin that own and run our club are experts at Pravda style disinformation and PR-diddling the media.

I would bet my sweet meaty bollocks right now that the new 2 year deal is signed and sealed already and they are just looking to diffuse those pesky protesters and then get one great result to lube the AKB's arseholes before they announce it. :(

Verrily Tis True.

For years Wenger and The Board have used the age old tactic of Divide & Rule - look at the fans fighting each other - Even family members and best friends have fallen out with one another - another aspect of that is Placate and Pretend till the ripples die down and things return to 'Business as Usual'.

But This Time we Ain't going Away. :box:

Found a brilliant article by Ian Ridley from March 2005. So much foresight.
Having given his all to the cause, Henry questioned this season's lack of spending to strengthen the squad amid the recriminations that followed Arsenal's Champions League exit brought about by the boa constrictors of Bayern Munich
Now the board have indicated that there will be a war chest this summer, possibly containing £40m. Before they hand it to Wenger, they could well go through a bout of soul-searching
In Europe, Arsenal have lurched and laboured year after year...This season they are further away rather than closer. The sight of a clearly frustrated Wenger impotently banging an advertising hoarding as Arsenal went out, like a non-League fan behind the goal, was poignant.
The feeling is that it has become too cosy within the club. Certain players are assured of their role, too fond of the manager and his benevolent, paternal treatment. At times Wenger appears too passive off the field and in making changes on it
Given the way the game is going, no longer can they simply afford to be purring domestic panthers but European pussycats. Not when a new 60,000-seat stadium needs filling
Wenger, too, has decisions to make about his future. He could, such was his stock, probably have landed a top Spanish or Italian job at any time over the past five years. Now, with his record in Europe, there will be second thoughts. He cannot afford for it to fall for much longer
he is going to have to find another, harsher, more expansive and pragmatic side of himself

Not bad, if as usual a little bit too sympathetic towards Wenger, why not just stop going though?, I don't get that attitude of I can't stop going but I hate the football, leave early and it costs a ridiculous amount to see us capitulate every season?!. If you are still going then I'm sorry this is going to sound harsh but you are part of the problem, this myth that tourists fill the ground I don't buy for one second, the vast majority of the crowd are season ticket holders. There is only ONE WAY the club will listen - empty the bowl. Can't see it happening though.

Hi mate. Brilliant to see you there on Tuesday night.

Nothing the media does surprises me anymore but the current Wenger Love In is sickening. Every week they rip Arsenal apart but by some media miracle none of it is ever Wenger's fault.

All it's doing is making me more determined to keep our protests going. They have got utter contempt for us.

"In the last nine years only once have we been the worst performing English club in the Champions League."

Right up there with '4th is a trophy', priceless.
Imagine the dressing room, next season, half time in a last 16 tie with Bayern Munich in the 1st away leg. We are 2 goals behind, needing something to take back to the Emirates.
Wenger strolls in to address his team, clears his throat, "not to worry if we don't progress to the quarter-finals, remember, Liverpool finished 3rd in their group, so we are not the worse performing English club again this year".

Its easy to pass over that he actually went in front of the press with this fucking stat prepared.

He should have done the right thing and resigned after the 8-2 like an honourable man would have done.

SIX years on he's still here, having inflicted further shameful results during that period.

This man is not an Arsenal legend.
