The gooner ed will be after you!

i've deleted the two repeats. i am seriously going to have to consider giving moderation rights to a couple more of the long term residents as this is the first chance i've had to even look at this here forum since friday.

there was even a repeat post from stearmaster, who should really know better by now.

read the message about 'repeat postings' that lives near the top of the 'general chat' forum, just to confirm how you get around delays once you've hit 'submit' 8)

I HATE IT AT THE CRICKET, AND I HATE IT AT THE FOOTBALL - ESPECIALLY WHILE THE GAME IS IN PROGRESS. :x

NOW IF YOU REALLY FEEL THE NEED TO DO THE WAVE  , THEN AT LEAST DO IT AT AN APPROPRIATE TIME. MAYBE WHEN THERE IS A LONG STOPPAGE OR BEFORE THE GAME/START OF THE SECOND HALF. 8)

I COULD EVEN JUST ABOUT ACCEPT IT HAPPENING TOWARDS THE END OF A GAME WHEN WE ARE WINNING THE MATCH COMFORTABLY, BUT ANYTIME ELSE DISTRACTS FROM THE FOOTBALL!! :x

TODAY, FOR LONG PERIODS OF THE GAME PEOPLE WERE LOOKING OUT FOR THE PROGRESS OF THE WAVE AND WEREN'T EVEN WATCHING THE MATCH!!  :x THEY PAY £30 FOR A TICKET AND DON'T EVEN BOTHER PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ACTION!! :? AND I BET YOU ANYTHING YOU WANT THAT THE C**TS THAT STARTED IT OFF WERE NOT REGULAR VISITORS TO ARSENAL OR EVEN FOOTBALL!!

I KNOW SOME PEOPLE ON HERE WILL DISAGREE WITH ME. THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY THOSE WHO LIKE IT AND SEE IT AS A BIT OF FUN. BUT IN MY OPINION, IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO THE WAVE - GO TO FECKING WIMBLEDON AND DO IT WITH THE MUPPETS THERE!! :x

SORRY IF I SEEM A BIT OF A KILL-JOY, BUT THAT'S JUST HOW I HONESTLY FEEL. RANT OVER!!
I totally agree with you!!

After the 5th time of it going round it really does lose its novalty!!

I pay to watch the game, not 'wave'

Origin of the wave (from Wikipedia, so it must be true!)

Post by MK Gould »

The exact origin of the wave is disputed. Its growth may be traced across three different sports, spread over three different North American countries. It may be said that it was created (by chance) at a National Hockey League game in Canada in 1980, was introduced to a wider audience (intentionally) at a Major League Baseball game in the United States in 1981. Whatever its origin, by the mid 1980s the practice was widespread throughout North America. It gained international notice during the FIFA Football World Cup in Mexico in 1986, hence the name Mexican wave. The wave was also believed to be created in Vancouver, British Columbia by a marketing campaign for the local soccer team the Vancouver Whitecaps, in which they got the crowd to perform this for a commercial in which their slogan was "Catch the Wave."

Although it was not associated with sports, Frank Zappa is credited by some with inventing the wave in 1969 at the Denver Pop Festival in Denver Mile High Stadium when he assigned sounds and gestures to sections of the crowd and sequenced them with hand gestures.

Very informative MK. I had heard the Zappa story before alright. As far as first time at footy it deffo was in Mexico 86.

Personally I find it a bit naff, but harmless if done at a friendly or before a match. During a competitive game is a no-no for me though.

A bit like taking one off the wrist, I suppose. The time and place have to be right. Well that's what that cop told me...
