ALAN SMITH!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why is he a *word censored* just because he gives a knowledgable, unbiased and balanced opinion on Arsenal? He is a journalist now, how long do you think he would stay in the job if he just bigged up Arsenal everyday? The guy simply tells it how is is and has no axe to grind with the club at all.

On another thread someone tells of meeting "Mr Arsenal" Tony Adams and how Tony described our defence as shit, but that's ok because he is Mr Arsenal yeah? The same Mr Arsenal that has been slating our club since he left as well as spouting all kinds of bullshit and rumours. Oh and the same Mr Arsenal who didn't turn up to the Highbury farewell.

Very contradictory I would say.

Smith was my favourite player growing up. I find him pretty boring when he's commentating, but nothing worse. Calling him a *word censored* is bang out of order. The man's a legend :barscarf:

Smudger is a legend. So what if he is not biased for us? He is a journalist and pundit. He calls it like he sees it and alot of what he has said about our club and players is true. Depressing to hear but still true.

And he is still a Gooner at heart. When the scum equalised during the 4-4 last season I was stood outside the sky box roaring abuse at Redkrapp and Smudge looked totally fucked off at him too (thanks for not "removing" me Sammy!!)

If only some of our overpaid players would put in half as much effort as the Smudge did on the pitch!

A great player and by all accounts a decent bloke too!

Not sure why so many people are having a go at Smudger? he was a top forward for Arsenal, scored some massively important goals and is a bloody nice bloke! Met him in the ground after a game last season, he was happy to have a chat and pose for some pictures

as for the other pikey twat who plays for Newcastle...have a go at him all you want...he is a complete prick!

I think labelling Smudger a *word censored* - especially when there are far more deserving former forwards to label that at right now - is actually pretty terrible. The man is a legend and I can tolerate his commentry, which is generally fair, more than anyone else around on sky.

Having said that, I sometimes get the impression that missing out on the Wenger era - that his former teammates were invovled in - and missing out on the premier league windfall has left a slight bitterness or, at least, he doesnt have the same affections for Wenger that Dixon, Adams, Keown, Parlour etc do. But fair enough.

Spot on BT!

This guy was the top scorer in the league and changed his game to suit the arrival of Wright which lead to him scoring ferwer goals and less personal glory. He also carried on playing for Arsenal in pain with a chronic knee injury that eventually forced him to retire.

Wow what a *word censored* he is!

Maybe some of the people he have labelled him that do not remember his fantastic efforts for the team and I am not just talking about Anfield and Copenhagen!

I personally think he has a lot of passion for the club but he chooses to simply say things how he sees it and if we are to be frank about, he has a lot more knowledge about the game in general and Arsenal specifically to do so than any of us on here.

Great player for us. Tremendous goalscorer. Title winner. Learned fellow as well with a foreign languages degree and as a pundit he seems fair minded.

His column in the Telegraph always reads well. And whilst he is sympathetic to Arsenal, he isn't afraid to say where he thinks we are going wrong. Given the last 5 years, one can hardly blame him.

So I can't really find a fault.
