Is Arshavin shit?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Bring Back Pires wrote:He has about one good game out of five.

But, unlike the majority of the squad, you know he's capable of sheer magic at any given opportunity.

Much like Bergkamp and Pires in their final year at the club. They didn't have great form, but still had a world class trick up their sleeve every once in a while.

I remember seeing the 200th issue of the Gooner, and thinking how out of place Arshavin looked on there next to the genuine Arsenal legends. I think that by the time the 300th issue rolls around, people will look back and think, "What the hell was he doing on there"? Especially if he leaves in the summer, like I expect him to.

The four goals at Anfield was probably the worst thing that could've happened to him. He's lived off the reputation of that performance ever since.
i agree very much with this point here, which is the difference between mediocre and world class..
so to the poster of this thread..no arshavin is not shit.

Well, not wanting to blow my own trumpet (cos i can't reach) but i said this about arsh last season and was villified for it.

His work rate is piss poor, his body language even worse and he doesn't give a fuck whether we win or lose, there said it and mean it and before anyone jumps on me again for this opinion just watch him him for 90 minutes.

I have been cursing him for months now, and i know a few here are massive fans but he has missed easy chances and match winning passes, the guy is out for himself....................simples

:barscarf: Like it or lump it shav is head and shoulders above the others and is frustrated by the lack of talent around him .

He doesnt pass to them often because whenever he does they fuck fuck it up

To say he doesnt work suggests to me that people watch a completely different game than the ones i do .

Our system however is such that we need more than 5ft8ins people playing upfront or in midfield.

Arshavin is a class act, but should NEVER be played as a centre forward, particularly in an isolated lone role. Play him deep or wide and he'll destroy any opposition, but ask him to compete in the air with John Terry for 90 mins and your not going to see him at his best to say the least.

Perhaps if Arsene had had the foresight to have an actual centre forward available for the last two games we'd still be in the title race, as opposed to asking the impossible of players who simply are not strikers.

Shava must be muttering to himself: "What on earth is Wenger thinking playing me as a center forward??? I thought he was a genius, turns out he's a complete retard!".

A couple of seasons ago when we were linked with Arshavin the first time, Wenger said he liked him but wouldnt sign him since he wasnt sure if he can do it day in day out in a tough league like the Premier league.

I dont think Arshavin is the type of player who will give you match winning performances in every game, even if he plays for Barcelona, so to speak. But he can create moments of magic, which are vital in big games. He can be a big game player, which we dont have now, maybe apart from Cesc.

I do sympathize with him, given the position he is being played in and the lack of quality around him, but still I expect more from a world class senior player like him than he has been providing. Id want him to try and dictate the game more, even if that means he has to drop down a bit. Sometimes he tries to be too cute and clever for my liking with his passes.

No quality around him? How about that looping pass from fabregas against the chavs that gave us our best chance of the match?

I know this "he can produce a moment of magic" line has become embedded in many peoples image of the guy but its time to judge him on what he is doing on the pitch. He has produced 5 moments of magic since he got here, and all were at anfield, a place he confesses to love for some unknown reason.

I mean come on, I'm sure denilson could provide a moment of "magic" if he was given long enough..

You put arshavin in a quality team and you will see a different player - ffs he is 5ft 6" and being crowded out by two fcuking giants like terry and carvalho every bloody game and when he does get a chance who should he pass it to ? theo (absolutely brainless and no ball control), nasri (where is he ?), diaby (continually pivoting until possession is lost), Bedtner (dont make me laugh) or denilson (where do I start ?).

Some of you guys complain about the lack of quality in players like denilson, diaby etc and rightfully so but here you have a world class player and you still slate him  A few more denilson's and ye wouldnt be long changing your minds

Yeah he's such a world beater that he wasn't snapped from the Russian leagues until he was 28?

He has natural talent no doubt but people talk of theo living off one hatrick and a run at liverpoo. Well, Arshavin is living off his anfield antics and one good euros. I'm sorry, but i cant imagine many "quality" teams tolerating a player with 0 work. No such team exists.

That said, I still think hes our best option on the left when RvP is fully fit, but he needs to stop pretending he is heads above the rest of the squad. And if he is, he needs to prove it.

Nah Arshavin is not s__t.
Arshavin has been made to play in a position which is infact not his natural position. Ofcourse the pressure on him is huge and yes he did seem greedy in the match against united but come to think of it, his role at the moment is indeed that of a striker. If he passed and misplaced the pass or it did not end up in the net, he would be blamed for 'not stepping up , not working as a striker' so he went for it. The last 11 games hes scored around 1 or 2 goals in this position. Also, he has an injured foot and if we had RVP and bentner fit, wenger would NOT play arshavin, perhaps give me a rest or maybe some time to heal. He has also expressed his concerns to Wenger and the fans about this central role and how he feels it is not right for him. Wenger did not listen, or he did but did too late and before he could actually sign someone BAM the window shut shop.

So i ask you to wait till he returns to his normal position and assess him then .

Tsarshavin is class.

You don't ask a midget to lead a 4-3-3 formation, specially in the PL. Wenger is a trisomic. End of
