Seaside trip on

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Cardiff itimidating and i love that!
Intimidating? I was at the game last season (FA Cup) at Ninian Park and it was about as intimidating as a bowl of soup! :? - Arsenal fans walked happily to the ground in Arsenal shirts and I didn't see any trouble at all.

Blackpool in the Premiership
My father started supporting Arsenal after he got demobbed in 1946 and got a job round the corner from the ground. He said in the late 1940s/early '50s Blackpool used to be in the old Div 1 and when they came down to Highbury with Stanley Matthews it was one of the biggest games of the season.

65,000 inside the ground and they shut the gates by 12.30 pm for a 3.00 pm kickoff

Straight up ! He used to stand on the Clock end next to a coalman who always turned up straight from Saturday morning work !

There used to be a tiny TV Camera gantry where they filmed stuff for Pathe News in the top right hand corner of the Clock End as you look at it from the pitch and they always tried to get that spot. But you had to be in about three or four hours before the kick off or you had no chance as that was the only bit of the terracing in the whole ground undercover.

The North Bank having been fire bombed during the war and the roof burnt gown.

No last minute rush to get in , in those days.

Hope Blackpool come out, it will be a great achievement for a club on such a small budget, plus you know the team will break up if they lose so it is now or never IMO.

Cardiff have got themselves into debt (they spend 2mil on Chopra even though they were technically insolvent) and promotion will bail them out for irresponsible spending. Plus their fans will look to kick off at every opportunity.

I think there is something to be said for having the bigger clubs back in the Premier League - and unfortunately neither Blackpool or Cardiff come into this bracket....

Good that Newcastle and Norwich are up, and hopefully we'll get Leeds back the season after next. I don't think Hull, Wigan....Blackpool add anything to top flight football. The other thing is that Blackpool would start the season as absolute bankers to go down and probably break records along the way. That makes things too easy for the likes of West Ham, Bolton etc to stay up!!
