spot on august! agree with this dude. He has signed for us for sure.augie wrote:merson_is_god wrote:Is this Kjaer fellow any good then? Who does he play for?
And is Kosceiny in the French World Cup squad? Is it a done deal? Heard nothing on Pravda!
Kjaer is a danish international that plays for palermo in serie A. He is a young but agressive centre back in the vermaelen mould as in he is no giant but is no shrinking violet either. He is the right age for a typical wenger signing as well (early 20's) as he has yet to hit his peak age so wenger has enough time to screw up his potentialNot being racist when I say this but I would be more confident in his signing than I am with the polish/french guy cos I believe that scandanavian football is more like english football so the physical aspect wont be as much of a culture shock.
By the way I also have to say that I would be amazed if sol resigns with us as well

Know he's yet to prove himself to the full but would Arshavin not rate Grade A ?
He cost a lot of Wonga and came off the back of the 2008 Euro championship finals where he was voted in the team of the competition .
Russian player of the year
But a lot of the Big Boy's wanted him as well . Suppose he was and largely is unproved so ok ok lads before you shoot me down ................... yes he's only Grade B (and a half

Palermo seem like they are going to let him go. United, City and the Scum are interested. Looking for £12.5m.

Mmm let me see.....£12.5m for an 21 year old international centre back with 2 or 3 years experience playing in serie a or £8m for a 25yr old centre back with no international experience and 1 season in frances top division

It should be a no brainer...pay the extra 4m and get a better quality player but in wengerworld you sign the cheaper player, spout some dogshite about how much potential he has and then sit back in frustration as we continue to ship goals left, right and centre

I know you've got a thing for Kjaer at the moment, but to be fair, at this point we have no idea how good/bad Koscielny is, so it's a bit early to be negative about it, isn't it??augie wrote:kingjayson1 wrote:Palermo seem like they are going to let him go. My knowledge of him is almost zero, but by all accounts he's impressed over the last 2 season. Also, I find it rather interesting that Wenger is willing to spend 8-10m euros (which is significant for us!) on a player that isn't high profile, isn't an international and isn't even that young....

Who knows, maybe Koscielny is a hidden gem? - after all, Drogba, Ian Wright, Diego Milito, Gilberto Silva, Petit, Luca Toni, and many many others spent much of their careers outside major leagues (and even in lower divisions!) without the high profile hype that Kjaer is under, yet they've proved to be top class. So, lets not write Koscielny off just yet....

Dont get me wrong g88ner cos I aint writing off this guy....my issue is that we didnt pay a transfer fee for chamakh, are probably not paying a transfer fee for joe cole and are looking at buying a keeper for 3.5m so where is the money going and where is the much needed boost in quality ? This guy may well have impressed over the last two seasons but to my knowledge only 1 of those seasons was in the french top flight. Yet again we are seeing wenger trying to acheive success on the cheap and you cannot do that....when you have a quality nucleas you can supplement it with a few cheapies but you cannot build a team of cheapies and realistically expect them to win (unless you count finishing 4th as a trophy
)

Vermaelen wasnt an unknown though was he cos he was an established international before he joined us and had played in hollands top division for a few seasons (may not be top quality level but certainly better than the french 2nd division). There is a big difference in a player being unknown and a player being unknown in the uk and Ireland cos we are seperated from mainland europe and may not be as clued in as a result
