A quick or not so quick rundown for you bG

Brugge is a nice place but Brussels is a bit of a shithole. Holland is good Amsterdam doesnt need any explaining  but if you want somewhere different then its Maastricht

Lake Lugano in Switzerland is beautiful so is Lake Como in Italy, Milan and Turin are very industrial but have a few places to see but Milan especially is very expensive in the centre of the city. Venice is good but very commercialised and smells of stale water in summer i went in the winter and was pretty good as it was less busy and less smelly. Rome is amazing so much to see and do and some great bars and resturants but expensive again without doubt Rome is number 1 for me though

Barcelona is a nice place, loads to see and do but can be dodgy for muggings and pickpockets just be sensible you should be ok, Madrid is ok but quite industrial again ive stayed in the suburbs of Madrid (Alcorcon and Laganes) and travelled into Madrid by train or bus. Madrid is very quiet in August and September as most of the people seem to go on holiday at the same time :? might be because of how hot it gets then. Also metro runs from airport to Madrid city centre for about £1 but a cab for the same journey is about £30/£40 dont get stung as i was the first time i went there  . There is a little city outside of Madrid (not sure how many miles) called Toledo its a lovely place well worth a look if you can.

Hamburg is a nice place and has the Reiperbahn with loads of bars, clubs and strip shows etc definately worth a night out there just for the laugh. Im off to Berlin in November on a mates stag do i'll let you know what thats like then.

Sorry for going on and on just thought id try and give you some tips  :D

BG, Norway is stunningly beautiful! (women AND scenery, that is! :-P )

The Fjords on the west coast are simply the most amazing scenery I've ever seen....

funny that you're not the first person to tell me that about brugge and brussels. i'll probably just go to brugge, then, as i need to save time for more important places. like amsterdam :D

to be honest italy isn't my greatest priority, that's why i only reserved around 5-6 days to stay there, but surely 2 or 3 of those i'll have to spend in rome, if not more. firenze seems to be unmissable too, so i'll probably do something around the two of them...

i'm probably not going to spain, which doesn't really make much sense as i'm a spanish descendant, but in fairness it's not somewhere that really calls my attention right now (never did, actually). i would have to stay less time in places that i want to visit a lot more, so i'll probably only check it out if those 10 extra days i have are open by the end of the trip, and still, there are other towns like prague that are not in my list but i'd still like to go more than spain... :(

i want to check out 3 german cities, one of which will be munich, so hamburg looks a great shout for another one. just checked on wikitravel, looks like it's a great place really. the reiperbahn sounds awesome 8)

and i can't thank you enough for that mate... all i know is what i read from books, and you don't know if the guy who wrote it isn't a freak with a strange taste for trips. so to hear it from a gunner who drinks beer, likes history and beautiful women means i'll probably like most of the places you do 8) :barscarf:

i know mate, all this story of traveling to europe came from two basic objectives: watching the arsenal and meeting the norwegian fjords. both have been what i dream about for the last decade. i'm gonna do those "sognefjord in a nutshell" or "norway in a nutshell" things (have you done any of that?) to do the little train and boat trips on the fjords. i met a girl in college who went to flåm, a small village by the aurlandsfjord, and she told me it was the most amazing place she had ever been to. the pictures she showed me were out of this world, the place was really unbelievable.

so, yeah, you bet i'll spend some time there looking at fjords and norwegian girl's arses, no matter how expensive that turns out to be :-P :barscarf: :barscarf:

I've camped in the Flam valley with a mate. It's very picturesque.

I flew to Haugesand and went to Lysefjorden. look it up, and Prekestolen, too. We then took the series of ferries and buses up the coast via Boknafjorden and Hardangerfjorden, then home from Bergen. There's a galcier near Bergen and ferry hopping in such stunning scenery is fantastic! 8)

----

Amsterdam is a must!

Not so sure about Hamburg (bit industrial and grim, I thought :? ) but Berlin and Munich are great cities. Best thing about Munich is that you're surrounded by amazing scenery, too - so it's a good location to be in.

i have one ex-girlfriend living in london and another in munich, and i have a good relationship with both so i have good contacts (and possibly a bed to sleep with someone to warm me  ) in both places. one thing that i will surely do is visit the neuschwanstein castle near munich.
anyway, munich, berlin and hamburg does sound nice for around 10-12 days, doesn't it? 8)

A few pics from where I've been in the last year or so.

Belgium
Was literally just like this. Field after field after field for about 3 hours. Brugge was alright though.
Image

Amsterdam
Not a big smoker but lots of Heineken got consumed.
Image

Hannover, Germany
For Hannover 96 v Arsenal. Was absolutely sweltering. Beer & Oompa band by the lake.
Image

Porto
Lots of Super Bock. Fabianski ruined the day somewhat.
Image

Athens
For Olympiakos vs Arsenal. Awesome city, got steaming drunk with some Irish after the game. This was mid-December, sweet weather.

Off to Poland in August for the Legia Warsaw game & New York end of September which i'm lookin forward to :barscarf:

Spot on. Athens looks like a nice spot, was going to go but changed my mind :banghead: I really must try to stay a little bit more sober when I go abroad, I only saw The Colosseum on the way to a nightclub in a taxi when I was in Rome!
