Ah but a couple of vital goals at the arse end of the 97/98 season. Bolton away and the cup semi v wolves that season were massive goals. Although things did go a bit downhill for him after that season, look where he ended up:

Arsenal
→ AEK Athens (loan)
→ Birmingham City (loan)
→ Den Bosch (loan)
Al-Hilal
Bournemouth
St. Mirren
Persepolis
Bishop's Stortford
Buckingham Town
Perseman Manokwari

Richard Wright is by far the worst Goalkeeper to have played for us in my "era" being born in 1984, he was truly awful - remember that punch into the goal at home to Charlton?

I even remember him giving two penalties away in about 5 minutes playing for England against Malta.

He was a real liability that lad! Had it not been for him getting injured in 2002 and Stuart Taylor coming in and doing well....!!

Even as a critic of Wenger, the only players from his era I would include in the 11 are Fabianski, Vivas and Malz, and even these can hardly be considered first choice. Although Flappy has been touted by Wenger as becoming an Arsenal great.
I honestly believe Fabianski is the worst top flight keeper I have ever seen.

I thought Ian Selley was a half decent player to be honest.

I wonder if there can be a distinction between players who were poor but had a run in the team, and those who hardly played? Players like Flatts, McGowan, Diawara etc were not really first team fixtures for any great length of time.
I also thought Selley was one of the better ones out of the late Graham era midfielders, his career was hampered by serious injury.

Scored at Wimbledon to give us a vital win in 97/98 along with the goal against Wolves in the Cup Semi...therefore he was useful!

You have got to be joking BDB. Wright was shit but no way is he worse than Flappy whose list of mistakes that have cost goals could fill a book. There is not one Gooner who wants to see him in goal if Average AL gets injured

got to go with donaldo - Fabulouski is in a different league to Wright - and not a good one.

I reckon Fabianski is worse than Richard Wright. The Charlton game with Richard Wright stands out as does a game we lost against Deportivo (if memory serves correctly he went off at half time in that one though as he was injured) but can't think of too many other mistakes off the top of my head. Maybe Flappyhandskis are just more fresh in the mind but I reckon we're well into double figures with the fuck ups he has made.

A signing who promised so much but delivered so little...that's my memory of Richard Wright.
