It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.
I Hate Hleb wrote:Really appreciate all your help M-50. However, if I'm honest, that seems like a whole load of stuff to remember to do - especially for a 40 something techno-phobe like myself.
Still, in the event I don't get anything that's easier to understand and do, will attempt those actions in due course.
And of course I'll buy you a well-deserved beer at WBA. Just look out for a loud-mouth fat guy with glasses, that drives a Black Cab, has a poor sense of direction and answers to the name of Peter.
No prob mate.
I understand the 'that's way above my head'. Hope you get sorted out via my method or another.
Like I said before it really depends how often you use the web. It you are a daily user for several hours a day, my above piece will really give you a better experience surfing online. If you aren't leave out the firefox add ons and get your security sorted as above.
I think you're mistaking me for DB10!!!
Seriously though, thanks again for taking the time to help.
M-50, some great stuff there. I will be trying out your suggestions too. At moment I am running Firefox with AVG and everything has slowed down (bit like Hlebby's sex life ) lately and the fucking scan takes hours so hoping these suggestions will improve all that! Thanks, mate.
AVG is the best free AV product out there. I have been advising clients for years not to use the like of Nortons or McAfee. Very resource heavy and shit value for money.
AVG is constantly updated, not resource heavy and will do ALL of the essential security tasks that the better known products will.
Just want to say thanks once again to everyone that contributed for all the advice.
M-50,
I did try your suggestion after all but after spending an age down-loading most of the stuff, with more still to go and my Desktop full of all the various related icons, I panicked and then stopped the process.
I then went to my e-mails and found amongst them another, cheaper offer from McAfee for the same product (£24.90). So for peace of mind, I renewed that.
Thanks again anyway. Perhaps DB10 will let us know how he got on with it in due course.

12th Gooner, M-50 and others that asked:
I have a stand alone at my house and a lap-top for use at my Mothers. I basically use the internet for: coming on to this Website; sending and receiving e-mails; watching football streams occasionally; and the odd piece of porn (for research purposes, obviously. When it comes to sex, you can never know too much!! ).
My lap-top - which was bought for me and I use most often - is a Toshiba (AMD?) and came with Windows 7 already installed. And for what it's worth, Sky are my Broadband provider.
Cool. You don't need to purchase Kaspersky. Free software is fine.
Actually you can use Microsoft Security Essentials
I'll shoot you an email at some stage this afternoon when I'm free. Can I ask what browser you use?
Mozilla Firefox. Used to have IE but had occasional problems and someone (from here?) told me Firefox would be better.
