Exactly! If a person doesn't like a particular arsenal kit he can exercise his option and not buy it. Wearing a kit does not make anyone a better supporter than someone who doesn't. Its a personal preference and choice.marcengels wrote:the value is in supporting Arsenal. If Chelsea has a better, nicer colour and style kit, he can't go and buy that one. So, there's enough people who like, are ok and will buy cos it's Arsenal, and don't like but buy anything Arsenal related.Iceman29 wrote:No, not really. Plus, there's enough people who think it's all shit and don't buy any clobber - like me.

Selling football kits to your own clubs fans is like shooting fish in a barrell, and no proof of quality, likeability or the like.

Just a point that Nike (not Arsenal) had the right in the original Edlemen contract to extend the contract free of charge if they so wished! No brainer really!Iceman29 wrote:But if you think they are not listening to fans then why are the shirt sales going so well?Boomer wrote:Did you not think I know how large Nike's client list is?!Iceman29 wrote:I doubt that they know fuck all about football. They sponsor some of the leading clubs in the world including Barcelona, Man Utd, Inter, Porto, Atletico Madrid and the international teams such Brazil and Netherlands. Whether blue sleeves or not the sales of away shirts are second to none so they are hitting the right notes. When the away shirt was released it was the top most selling shirt only to be toppled once Man Utd's home shirt came out.Boomer wrote:Yes.....but they no fuck all about football and asking what the fans want!Iceman29 wrote: I like Nike. They are the premier sporting goods manufacturers
Fans: "We'd like our away kit to be yellow with blue sleeves. See what you can do with that?"
Nike: Yellow and blue has been done before, forget tradition. How about this?
It's all white which is a 'pure' colour and show all which is good in the world and for football.

The fact they can design and mass produce shirts still doesn't mean they have fans knowledge about the game. That's what I was referring too.
Probably both the club as well as Nike fualt and not consulting what us fans (customers) want.
And if the club were getting such poor sales from Nike they would not have extended their contract up to 2014.

There's several sides to the 'fan' that buys the shirt.
1) There's the Arsenal fan which will buy the latest shirt (regardless) of it's colour and design. Kids are included in this highly.
2) There's the Arsenal fan that buy shirts which look good.
3) There's the one-off (celebration) shirts which are like collectors items.
4) Then there's the non-Arsenal fan which around the globe will by a good looking shirt.
Apart from 1, if the shirts shit and non-historical (see 3) then the shirt sales will be poor.
This year, for the first time in ages I've not bought a shirt. Usually the shirts alternated lasting 2 years. Home one year, away the next.
This years home shirt is indeed a marked improvement on the current shirts but it's so similar to the '06(?) shirt so I've decided to not buy it.
I love yellow and blue away and was so disappointed to find us wearing 'Red currant' trim. It's an awful combination.
Yes, I bought the home Red currant shirt a few season back but that was quite nice and fits into point 3.
So of course shirts will sell this season this is because of point 1.
But I bet I'm right with 2,3 & 4.

If rationality goes out the window then Nike have hit gold to be honest and the only way they will suffer is if fans decide not to buy it but as you put fans are not rational that is not going to change and debating this whole topic over the colour and style of our kit is uselessmarcengels wrote:What exactly??Iceman29 wrote:Exactly! It's personal preference to wear or not, but it is not any barometer of how good the kit is, or how well Nike do their job, in how many are sold - because it is a closed market, and if the club is relatively popular and successful, these things are relatively bulletproof. Now if Nike got spurs fans to buy the Arsnal kit cos it was so nice, then that would be a true test of how good the kit is.

nar support is going and supporting through good and bad times and leaving the match with sore throat and a banging head. Your right though its not a fashion show.Iceman29 wrote:An individuals right I'm afraid. Its a football game, not a fashion show. People dont wear it to look good but as a form of support.Plus do you really think it looks good when a grown man is wearing a footi kit with a players name on the back?
Though saying that i do like to see a fit girl in a tight little arsenal top!
