the difference in having a good keeper or a great keeper is prob about 12 extra points a season,, maybe fabianski is the man in aw eyes for next season,, the two main keepers i feel are not good enough to lead a team at this moment for a title challenge, i also think shay given is the best in england outside of cech and it seems he dont like big sam so might be easy to pick him up in jan

Lehman was at his best when he was in competition with Oliver Kahn to become the German number one with the prize of a World Cup on home soil to keep him focussed. That focus has now passed and I do not think it will be returning anyday soon.

Almunia is a good keeper but not a great and very unlikely to become one, others may disagree but I just don't see it happenning.

Fabianski shows lots of promise but is very young and lacking experience. It is no coincidence that all the great keepers seem to reach their peak at a later age than that of outfield players, so I believe Fabianski is not yet ready to take on the mantle of Arsenal's number 1.

I agree with Rebel that a good goalie can be the difference of as much as 12 points a season.

If we are serious about becoming Europes number 1 club then surely it is only right that we have one of if not the very best goalkeeper protecting our goal.

I would love to see us poach Cech from our local feeder club Chelsea but I can't see that dream coming to fruition.

Wenger allegedly has a large warchest at his disposal, lets hope he sees fit to use some of it on a World class keeper.

VERY GOOD ANALYSIS WAYNO. 8)

I REMEMBER READING THAT WE ACTUALLY TRIED TO SIGN CECH THE YEAR BEFORE HE WENT TO CHELSEA!! I CAN'T RECALL THE REASON WHY WE DIDN'T GET HIM - TRANSFER FEE TOO HIGH, PROBABLY!!

I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE THAT I BELIEVE SHAY GIVEN WOULD BE A GREAT SIGNING FOR US BUT - WENGER HAVING STATED IN THE PAST THAT HE LIKES TALL GOAL-KEEPERS - I WONDER IF GIVEN'S LACK OF HEIGHT MIGHT COUNT AGAINST HIM IN ARSENE'S EYES

i think it was to do with a work permit, not a 100% though.

I'm sure you are right AA1886, the problem was with the work permit. Assuming that to be the case then he is fair game now and should look good sporting a shiny new red helmet in goal for us

we wouldnt go for or get cech now so climb out of that fantasy world lads. Granted wenger likes to create world class players instead of buying them but I do not think you can apply this rule with keepers as their mistakes will cost us points here and now. Even though he is my fellow countryman I have to say that I have never been convinced about given(maybe its a height thing) although his shot stopping is excellent. Jussi is another keeper I like but if you all think that jens will be off in jan then we need to sign a keeper then that isnt cup tied. We may have missed the boat with gordon of sunderland who looks to be quality. I still back jens to return with a vengence though

It was a work permit issue: in 2003, a deal was agreed with his club at the time, Rennes, and with Cech himself. But since the Czech Republic didn't join the EU until 2004, Cech needed to meet UK work permit regs, which he didn't.

So his first choice was the mighty Arse!

I don't expect it to happen, but if there were to be an exodous from that shit-hole, why not join us??

I am not Almunia"s biggest fan but we are top of the league have won every game Almunia has played in this season, why would Wenger drop him?. And a quick question how many goals have we conceded from set pieces this season not as many as this time last season i bet.

Because Lehmann could/would have prevented at least one of the Sunderland goals (the Jones one) and Almunia's decision-making continues to look weak (e.g. storming out of his area). Lehmann has plenty of weaknesses but he's just a better player. If he looks good for Germany, I say get him back in.

If he thinks Almunia can't cut it against Liverpool or Man U? I think only the Spurs one and a disallowed one by Bucherast

My point is Almunia has not made a mistake that has cost us points Lehmann has. Lehmann was a great keeper but the years have caught up with him like they did with Seaman.
