An Observation...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Someone said internatinal football wasn't a good place to judge someone, a fair enough point but used Healy as an example. I defended Healy then explained that I believed that people should look at who the player scores against as well as goals he gets for his country. At no point did I say Healy was as good as Berbatov. Then I said what I thought of Crouch, Healy and Berbatov, none of which said Healy was better then Berbatov. Unless be interesting to see how he does is better then world class

Called transitional period, we played very well last season but undermined it with bad errors at the back and awful finishing. It was only a matter of time before Arsene's youngish side found its feet

Leprechaun_9, 1886 and saying anyone who thought Arsenal could do win the league was
I am not on the offensive at all but all this talk of winning leagues masked with the optimism of an eight year old is not right!
and one or two other comments on that line

Oh well Im glad that your search found you the insult of the year in "the optimism of an eight year old is not right"

Aint I just the cross between Bin Lasen and Mugabe! Nver know I may call someone a bounder or a cad if I get really narked!

I still do not believe we will win the league and god do I hope I am wrong!

We will see but I still stand by the fact my opinion is based on facts from the last few seasons were as yours was based on "It was only a matter of time before Arsene's youngish side found its feet"!

Sounds like guess work to me!

Wayno, you should be doing that as a matter of right :P

Gus, it was just the first one, yes it was a fairly weak one by your condensing standards. No, I don't think being insulting is comparable to mass murderers and never said it was, didn't even say you were evil so don't know why you brought that up though I accept that was one of your weaker insults. Interesting how I saw a side filled with potential that dominated games last season but due to slipshod defending and bad finishing didn't do better whereas you saw, what? Mediocre team about to slide? I thought we would sort out the finishing, been pleasantly surprised by the defending for the most part though we have ridden our luck at times this season.

Still, at least we both think Arsenal won't win the league this season.

AND THERE IS THE MOST APT TIME TO END THIS DEBATE - WITH YOU TWO IN TOTAL AGREEMENT!! 8) 8)

YOU NEVER KNOW, IF YOU LET IT, THIS MIGHT LEAD TO A DEEP AND MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU GUYS IN THE FUTURE. I MEAN, LOOK AT ME AND TONY SAUNDERS!! 8)

I HAVE TO SAY I LOVE GUS's AVATAR - VERY INVENTIVE YET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, LEAVING NO-ONE IN ANY DOUBT AS TO YOUR FEELINGS. 8)

AT THE SAME TIME I HAVE TO ADMIT A SNEAKING ADMIRATION FOR MAGIC - NOT THE DAVID COPPERFIELD TYPE MIND YOU!! HE IS NOT SCARED TO PUT FORWARD HIS OPINION EVEN IF SOMETIMES (OKAY, MOST OF THE TIME! ) IT IS CONTRARY TO THE PREVAILING POPULAR MOOD.

THE ONLY DOWNSIDE I CAN SEE TO YOU GUYS GETTING ON - AND THIS IS PURELY SELFISH - IS THAT IT WOULD DEPRIVE THE REST OF US OF ALL THE ENTERTAINMENT THIS TEMPESTUOUS RELATIONSHIP IS CURRENTLY PROVIDING!!

Okay then, I'll dicredit his Club record as well. He scored 21 goals in his last season in Germany. A few years ago there was a guy called Sean Dundee (heard of him?) Dundee was a South African who moved to Germany. He scored goals consistently for about 3 years in the Bundesliga and signed for Liverpool where he played one game and then went back to Germany. As for Berbatov's first season in the Premier League I can think of no better example than Kevin Phillips.

I am not attempting to compare these men with Berbatov, I am simply showing that your argument to demonstrate he is World Class is a poor one. Players like Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho, Paolo Maldini, Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira are/were all World Class, Berbatov is not even close.

YOU HAVEN'T DISCREDITED BERBATOV'S CLUB RECORD AT ALL. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS SHOW THAT DUNDEE WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE PREMIERSHIP, NOT THAT BERBATOV ISN'T WORLD CLASS!! IF YOU'RE TRYING TO USE THAT COMPARISON TO PROVE THAT THE BUNDESLIGA ISN'T THAT GOOD, THEN YOU'VE USED JUST AS BAD AN EXAMPLE TO BACK UP YOUR CLAIMS AS YOU DID WHEN USING DAVID HEALY!!

ALAS MY FRIEND IT IS YOUR EXAMPLES THAT ARE POOR ONES!! WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT WORLD CLASS THEY MEAN IN RELATION TO NOW, NOT IN COMPARISON TO PEOPLE WHO PLAYED YEARS AGO. OTHERWISE I COULD INCLUDE PEOPLE LIKE PELE, MARADONNA AND CRUYFF IN A LIST OF WORLD CLASS PLAYERS, MEANING EVEN PLAYERS YOU'VE MENTIONED IN YOUR EXAMPLE - LIKE HENRY AND GIGGS - WOULDN'T BE COMPARED FAVOURABLY.

I'M TALKING ABOUT PLAYERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY PLYING THEIR TRADE AND - THEORITICALLY SPEAKING - WERE A WORLD CLASS SQUAD OF SAY 24 GATHERED TOGETHER TO PLAY IN AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION NEXT WEEK, WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THAT SQUAD.

NOW YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO DISAGREE, BUT I THINK MOST PEOPLE WHO KNOW THEIR FOOTBALL WOULD INCLUDE BERBATOV IN THAT SQUAD. 8)
