Magic Hat wrote:Certainly seems a lucky keeper. Thought he swept up well tonight, including that brave dive to a low cross inside the six yard box late on and several times dove at feet. Didn't have much to do as a shot stopper, one blast straight at him from Pedro when he stood up well, slightly worried by his performance when facing 1v1's.
Sorry, not as a huge a fan of his being number 1 next season as the rest of you.
I think this actually looks the strongest part of his game, makes himself big, a bit like schmeichal.

Those two twat commentators gave NO credit to WS but as far as I'm concerned he beat Messi 1v1 on that early chance. Messi was waiting for the "inexperienced keeper" to give him the opening, and instead Szczesny made himself massive, held Messi to the last possible second, and said "What you got?".
That's the kind of bravado that I love to see in a keeper. He put Messi off, but as usual people call it "Messi's error" as opposed to "Szczesny's save".
With regard to that messi miss, they showed the view from behind the goal and if the shot is on target it would clearly have hit WS so in my opinion ws1 - messi 0

Have to disagree with you there magic
I actually think his 1v1's are the strongest part of his game. Always makes the striker make the decision and will wait untill the last possible moment before going to ground

When Messi broke clear, he ended up committed too early, spread himself well to recover certainly but a little lucky that Messi didn't manage to take advantage. Unlucky with the "offside" goal, fine save there, not blaming him for the onside goal either. Wrongfooted by Messi who hit sidenetting, forced Alves wide after beating it out to the fullback if you can count those as 1v1's. Mixed bag I thought

Yeah he should take a leaf out of almunias book, he fucking dominated messi at 1v1's
I think this lad will be our number 1 long-term. Having said that he probably is being hyped up prematurely but its understandable considering the underwhelming excuses for keepers that we've had to put with the last few years.
just how good is it to be able to think when the worst happens and the defence is split ,"they've still got to beat ches"its been along long time since thats happened.i can't see an obvious weakness in him,all this 1v1 is nonsense he has modelled that on schmichel thats plain for all to see and no one was better 1v1 than ps.i think we've finally found the one and at this moment i would'nt have anyone else, reina, buffon etc no ta.
brady won it beautifully look at that oh look at that
