Merson on Arsenal's Transfer Policy

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Loved merse as a player and love him as a pundit.......I dont give a flying fcuk if he is/was a chav fan or not cos imo he has earned the right to speak honestly about The Arsenal 8) Lets be honest he is only saying what thousands of Gooners, realists and tinters alike, have been saying for some time now and I believe that it is high time that this belief and feeling from the fans is brought into the public domain more :x

agreed why is there nothing organised before a game to show how the supporter are feeling or even some banner sneaked into the ground with hope of a tv camera capturing it before it is taken?

I think Wrighty is a legend. Merse just seems so anti Arsenal. Am I wrong in thinking that hes a chav? :?
100% wrong 1991 - Merson is fucked off with Arsenal but still loves us.
Just like myself and many others. Its because he is in the lime light it sounds worse.
No way is he a chav
As Step commented earlier, Merson is and always has been a Chelsea fan.

When his dad agreed to sign him up for the Arsenal youth teams Merson freely admits to crying his eyes out because he wasn't allowed to sign for Chelsea.

All the years playing for the club and the support he received during those times certainly gives him soft spot for the Arsenal.

But he's a Chelsea fan at heart.

I am not sure if he has a chav heart or not mate.

But watch that video again on you tube, that is more than a pundit who used to play for Arsenal. That is a man with Arsenal running through his blood! He was so worked up it could have been one of us ranting on TV.
He cares so much about the team and about the fans. IN ANGER “what are they spending there money forâ€

in the end, that short sentence is all the trouble we've been discussing about. i think 100% of people here agree that with the addition of 2/3 QUALITY players (i mean like vermaelen and nasri, not squilacci or silvestre) we could become a very very strong team. what would've happened if we had a good defensive midfielder to play versus barcelona, instead of diaby? would things be different? were would we be in the league if we had another quality centreback to play instead of squilacci? what about the cup final, if the defense was djourou and someone else, would we be champions?

hard to say, but i think most here agree that 30/40 millions spent in 2/3 top class players (and we know we can find them) would make our chances a little better. well, i meant a lot better.

what do you mean, mate? i've been saying this for ages, i want us to buy a cover for song for a while now, and i was among the lads saying that i would jump off the 'arsene knows' wagon if he didn't buy a new goalkeeper... well, to be fair i don't think we need a keeper anymore, but the rest stays the same.

the fact that i still believe arsène is the man for the job doesn't make his stupid decisions (not buying the players mentioned, keeping the faith in diaby denilson & co.) any smaller.

i've been saying that for a while tbh

I would reckon that while he may grown up supporting Chelsea dn evenstill have a place in his heart for them there is little doubt that Merson now is Arsenal through-and-through. This may be the strongest sort of statement of how we have run ourselves through the years and the people on the Arsenal Board especially in the past 50-75 years deserve full credit ofr this effect being at Arsenal has on its players, that Arsenal can engender such passions in its past pleayers even if they did not grow up Arsenal themselves.

Even if he goes and buys the top 3/4 players it's not like he's failing the project of the 'youth' system

Get rid of the likes of medicore players such as Bendtner, Denilson and Squillaci. Not sure about Diaby although he is 24 now so getter a bit older I did see quite a few glimpses before he was injured (obv could get someone better song is not a bad dm). Rosicky is 30 now so might as well get rid of him I think hes a good player though however since being injured I don't think he's been up to his standard.

Then we can build around the excelled young players Szczesny (20) Wilshere (19) Fabregas (23) Nasri (23) Walcott (21) Ramsey (20) Gibbs (21)

we're nearly there to doing something big if wenger sorts the squad and and dips his hands.
