As a red member I was surprised but delighted to get tickets for this one,
Looks like a lot of people were put off by the 5.30 kick off ,
Fortunately I'm just over two and a bit hours drive from SJP so it's by far my easiest trip of the season.
I didn't even have this match on my radar for this season and now I have this and with coming down for the Sunday Emirates Cup games to look forward to, great stuff for us long distance gooners!!

I am glad to get a ticket as a red member as well.
I guess the distance and cost has put off most fans off, as I expected it as the first game of the season to go quicker.
Cheap hotels were impossible as all travelodge types were full or seemed to be over £100, and when you can stay at a Thistle for £94 over £100 for a travelodge seems far too much.

Tempted to do this but I can't do an overnighter this time, need to be back for the Sunday morning. It's pretty much a pisstake that you can't get a train between two of the UK's biggest cities after 7pm :awnker: I've been to former Eastern Block countries that run a better service at a tenth of the cost.
Megabus is an option at £8 each way, not particularly excited at the prospect of sitting on a bus that takes forever to get to London, probably via Botswana, though...

Is strange there is no travel details for this game or the one in Manchester. Have Arsenal stopped running travel to away games?
I have looked up every train seemingly possible to get home, the last flight is too early as well. But you could get a flight at 23:25 to Palma Mallorca Airport then one to London getting in at 5:40. It would cost over £200 you would travel miles out of your way but you would be in London the next morning.

I'd assume Arsenal will be putting on travel, just for some reason haven't announced it yet_James_ wrote:Is strange there is no travel details for this game or the one in Manchester. Have Arsenal stopped running travel to away games?

Even still, make a night of it in Newcastle, it's gonna be a cracking weekend, regardless (or in spite of) the football

I wish I would of taken you up on your offer now, I'd be knee deep in your crack.AA23Northbank wrote:I'd assume Arsenal will be putting on travel, just for some reason haven't announced it yet_James_ wrote:Is strange there is no travel details for this game or the one in Manchester. I'll believe that when I see it, if Arsenal Player is anything to go byHow to book your travel? We are currently in the process of finalising a new online booking system. We hope that travel will be available to purchase from 9pm on Friday 29th July 2011.

didnt want to start a new thread on it, but I saw a great bit of Geordie delusion today and thought I'd share it- them and Spurs really are like two peas in a pod. This article is all about their apparently "famous" number 9 shirt. Its an oldie, but it does mention Pele and Maradona's shirts not being as "sacred" as theNewcastle number 9
Off topic I know, but a bit of a laugh anyway

"Mention the number 9 of Newcastle United and Alan Shearer - the current inhabitant of the shirt - will come to mind. And with good reason too. Shearer is a true Toon legend who many would argue as being numerous uno.
However there is perhaps an even bigger legend at Newcastle than the great man himself. A legend that has always been with the club and always will, in part thanks to the efforts of Big Al among others. A legend that makes legends such as Shearer.
Who is this legend? The number 9 shirt of course!
Is there any other club in England or indeed the world who can boast of having such a distinctive shirt? Arguably there is no other club who can boast of having had so many great players playing in just the one shirt. Or a club who embrace a number such as we do with the number 9 from fans to players alike?
In world football the great duo of Pele and Maradona have made the number 10 shirt a distinctive one while at Manchester United George Best and David Beckham of late have both made the number 7 shirt a distinctive one for them. All revered numbers in world football, but none match the number 9 shirt of Newcastle United.
For some of the world's best goalscorers have graced it and will continue to grace it. Mention the number 9 of Newcastle United and it reads: Skill, pace, flair, power, strength, bravery, technique, goals, goals, goals and more goals. And that is why it's a special shirt with a tradition as long and proud as the club itself.
Historically and consistently we have been honoured to have had strikers with those great qualities wearing the number 9 shirt of NUFC and here we pay homage to the shirt of legends and the goalscorers who have worn it with distinction throughout the years."
