Graham Hunter: Via Twitter.
Mata: Spurs bid, player not keen. Arsenal did convince him but between AFC and VCF was verbal. Mata pretty down in dumps. May well stay but
not finished yet. VCF showed that are open to certain amount, Mata's stance on all this will be vital. Opportunity missed though

Graham Hunter:
Mata: contract crafted to allow him out & VCF had time to replace. Do they have smne in mind? Hve they spent 2 much? Will JM push or accept?
Those questions will sort out what happens next. But fact that VCF guaranteed UCL football is an important factor against THFC

It's a joke....surely we have £15 million knocking about somewhere??? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Wenger needs to get a move on. Two weeks away from the start of the season and we are still lacking in areas that are so apparently weak. He has had all summer to address these problems, what the fuck has he been doing???? :banghead:

He's been doing fuck all... not only that, but we are STILL no closer to knowing who is coming in and we are STILL no closer to knowing if two of our best players will be here next season.

NOT ONLY THAT, but even if we do sign some players, they wont have time to settle before two crucial games :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Exactly, it really is a no brainer. Nasri doesn't want to be here and we risk losing him on a free. Sell him, bring in Mata (or whoever). Where is the logic in keeping a player who clearly doesn't want to be here and then losing out on millions by losing him the next summer??? Wenger logic!

Man Utd brought in their players early and got them settled into their pre-season tours and friendlies. That's just too easy eh?

What has he been doing :?:

He's been doing what he always does, he show an interest in a player we need, he makes a derisory offer for them and then sits back and hopes the player is so desperate to come to us he will force the move or the selling club are so desperate for the cash they will eventually accept the derisory offer...
If neither happens he goes out and buys someone very cheap that no one wants at the last minute and pretends it was all part of the plan. Or even worse he just carries on with what he's got and pretends there is nothing better out there and that his squad is the best he has ever had and are destined for great things......

I have to say that this transfer breakdown, if true, is one of Wenger's poorest actions

Mata is highly rated, young and at £18 million would surely give a good return on investment i.e performances, goals, competition for places etc etc

Now his price is going up because we messed around before the deadline.
Its ridiculous to be honest. We need to build a competitive squad, make players fight for their place.

Thousands of Gooners can see that if we sign 3-4 good players, we will be really competitive this season....why can't Wenger? it's getting stupid and really unfair on the fans

What's the point scoring if we can't keep a clean sheet!
We need Samba, Cahill, Enrique and Barton.

Cahill: we'll it's obvious why we need him and I think we all agree.
Enrique: we need an experienced left back as neither Gibbs nor Traore are ready. And Vermaelean at left back should be plan Z, if we have no further option left, not plan A or B.
Samba: we def need a tall and intimidating player. He will be most useful when playing against physical teams and his lack of pace can be compensated by other players, so shouldn't be a problem. He would come in handy to protect other players as Sakho (PSG captain who is also a tank) did this afternoon when he went to talk to a NY red bull player who was starting to get rough vs PSG players: "don't do that again or next time it's me who'll come after you". Well guess what, the NY player calmed down.
Boca junior guys kept hitting JW during the game and I wish there had been a Samba or a Barton on the pitch to come and help Jack and give some back. Point is we're too often being bullied and you don't see other player come to help when a player is targeted by the opposition. I'd think Samba and Barton could change that. We also need authority at the back and leadership to kick players not performing, and if Arshavin had Samba shouting at him, he'd probably come back to defend quicker.
Barton: for the reason mentioned above: we need fighters to push the team when things get tough and to protect team mates when things get rough: Samba can do that at the back and we need someone tough in the middle of the park and Barton can be that man. Besides he's not bad technically and we desperately need cover for Song as Frimpong isn't fully ready yet.

I think with these 4 additions and in keeping Cesc and Nasri we can win the league.

Thoughts?
I really did believe in you santa, I thought that every christmas eve/morn you really would come down the chimney and leave me some nice presents, but after claiming that we can win the league I now know that you are a fraud

I dont know if anybody is suggesting that mata is a replacement for cesc but more that he would be a replacement (and upgrade) on nasri so am not sure why some are unfairly knocking the signing of mata based on cesc's possible departure :?

If this potential transfer falls through then wenger should feel the full wrath of our feelings at our earliest possible chance

This cannot be true, surely?

Seems we have missed the deadline for buying him at £18m and now might have to pay as much as £28m.

Surely he is a Nasri replacement anyway, and that little tosser should have been on his way for £20m at the first hint of a bid from City or United.

Get rid of someone who doesn't want to play for us, bring in someone who wants to play for us, and get a £2m profit. Can't really see the problem.

Oh well.

Just think that the uncertainty about Nasri and Cesc and Bendter is blocking a few potential moves.

We all know there is roughly £30M in the bank to spend on players, and money to be raised from sales on top of that.

So my guess is that Mata was not Wenger's first priority.

Poor arsenal, must be hard for em to get the money together to buy these expensive silly players. Luckily they're so forgiving when it comes to their beloved fans shelling out for membership, season tickets! :banghead:

Do what the rest of us do arsene, stick it on a fucking credit card!
