Mertesacker Signs

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They weren't too happy at all about that one.

 :heads: :worried:
You're practically a kraut, what's your opinion of him? :?
He had a poor season last year, one which was bad for Bremen. Bremen have started better this season, and he's still a regular for Germany. I guess that's the thing that's difficult to use as a reference for his club form, because you have someone like Podolski who is much more effective in the International team than in club football.

I think most people have seen enough of Mertesacker to form an opinion of what he is. He can do a job for us - but will he adjust to the English game, will he be able to get used to our complex defensive mechanisms
 , and which pub on the Holloway Rd will he visit next?

:barscarf:

Piresistible. Hi. Being one of Arsene's biggest apologists, I would be curious to get your thoughts on our 8-2 drubbing?

eerrrmm I have been away. cough cough.
Yes, it was embarrasing and my thoughts were deep and sharp - but i am back and have not given up hope with the new signings.
it's unfair to comment on that performance with those players that played for us.

virtually a done deal, best CB signing we could of hoped for - 6ft 6in, only 26 and 70 odd caps for the national team

for me better than Samba and Jagielka - shame we didn't sign fellow germans Gotze and Podolski

Really pleased with this signing. :barscarf:

Why the fuck couldn't we sign him months ago? :banghead:

i think this is what the fans want, we don't expect to compete with City or Chelsea with transfee fees or wages

but proven class players who don't have to cost a fortune - why we are not trying to buy Podolski, Huntelaar is beyond me

Yep great signing but we will come undone when Koscielny or Djourou have to play.
