January 2012 Transfer Window

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger acted quickly after the 8-2 humiliation at Manchester United and brought in Park Chu-Young, Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta before the deadline.
And it has now emerged that Wenger also moved for a range of other targets as he looked to strengthen his squad in the wake of the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Among the possibilities investigated was Fulham's US striker Dempsey, but Arsenal were unwilling to match the £10million asking price for the 28-year-old.
Dempsey told Goal.com: 'Yes there was interest from clubs, including Arsenal, but nothing materialised.'
Meanwhile, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed he was contacted by Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi about the availability of France midfielder Gourcuff.
But Lyon were unwilling to let the former AC Milan and Bordeaux star leave, even though he is currently injured.
'I got a call on the penultimate day of the transfer window from Gilles Grimandi asking for a loan,' Aulas told French radio station RMC.
'We believe in re-establishing Yoann. He has been operated upon. He has just resumed training.'

Wow we were really desperate towards the end. Maybe we'll add more attacking midfielders to our squad in January. Unless Wenger wanted those guys before we signed Benayoun and Arteta.

Wenger rules himself out of the race for international midfielder
Arsenal were this morning linked with a January move for Mexico midfielder Marco Fabian de la Mora.
However, manager Arsene Wenger rejected the reports at his morning press briefing.
When asked about a move for the 22-year-old, he said: "No. It is just an agent who wants to sell a player."

....and is Lucas Podolski the answer to our prayers ??? It seems we'll be going cheap for Podolski and blowing the majority of the budget on an attacking midfielder like Goetze or HazardSWLGooner wrote:Buy a good striker Wenger you blind c**t, it's not all that hard, the money is there.
If we want cheap, sign Anelka....but I would rather we use the whole kitty available to sign a top notch European striker

I'd would have to say that I agree. We badly need a top quality striker to take the emphasis off RVP.SteveO 35 wrote:....and is Lucas Podolski the answer to our prayers ??? If we had ambition we would be ambitious and pull out the stops to get Benzema from Real or any other top level striker for that matter.
Does anyone agree that Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Schalke would be a good shout?- he has a decent scoring record wherever hes been

While a RB, LB and another CB would be nice, the concensus from this and other threads seems to be we need a striker, a Def Mid and probably a wide man. But who?
I know we don't have AW's scouting network but who specifically do people want us to buy.
In order I'd like a striker, a def mid and then the winger.
I'd take Podolski (I think he's a safer bet than Huntelaar and I've no idea about the Argentine 'wonderkid', Ricky van Wolfswinkel or any of the others) and I'd love to see Hazard. As to the def mid, I've little idea. de Rossi would be good but probably isn't realistic and, as to M'vila or the rest of the French legion, I tend to switch off when I hear a player's had a good season with Toulouse.
Where do you think our priorities lie and who would you sign?
