Vieira lording it at City

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

PV was irreplacable, he was one of the guys that defined the invincibles. Him and Gilberto should have been left to retire at the club.

His leadership skills were and are still needed. Imagine Frimpong, Wilshere learning their trade from PV or Gilberto.

In theory it sounds like a good idea but then how many players should be allowed to earn a huge living "hanging around" the club in a state of semi-retirement?

Having old legends about doesn't always impact positively on young arrogant headstrong players either. I suppose the Board/Arsene made a decision they felt was best all round (and possibly amidst circumstances we know nothing about) but I agree they should have kept at least one of those top class players on in a coaching role, even on a trial basis.

But then Wenger (post-2005) doesn't need any input on his amazingly successful managerial/coaching style, does he? :banghead: :(

That's because he has 'worked in football for 30 years'!!  Too arrogant to admit to being either wrong, or needing help yet I remember him claiming a couple of years back that he wasn't stubborn and didn't think he was always right. Yet he easily dismisses others views with lines like the above or 'They haven't worked half a day in football'.

In theory I get your point, but would Paddy have been happy just being a squad player? He wasn't a Giggs etc who have a real love for the club. He wasn't the same player, I remember him being terrible in a game against Palace and thinking his time was coming to an end.
