ARSENE WENGER WILL BANKRUPT OUR CLUB

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The Emirates will become a mill-stone round our necks.

Our wage bill is so out of proprtion it's not real. But it's not just the players. We have a commercial team that have been in place for 3 years, with nothing to do... Our commercial deals don't run out until 2014. So why have the Commercial Team been on £5m pa for the past 3 years? We could have cut Season ticket prices by 6.5%, not increased them. In fact 6.5% simply paid for our Commercial Team for one year. They asked us to pay for their wages for a year..........

We are dead in the water, unless Usmanov buys out Kroenke and splashes the cash. With Kroenke and Wenger we will be bust before we know it.
Okay I’ll give this a go……

Firstly I totally agree and I think Wenger’s realised that he’s tried to over pay players to keep them at the club to fend off any other clubs. Plus the idea was to reward there loyalty.
This work with Cesc in that he held a stupidly long contract.
Where it doesn’t work is in players that are no where near the league of Cesc. Like Diaby, Almunia, Denilson & Bendtner etc….
In fact I personally feel it does the reverse of what it meant where we have players that don’t really care whether they play for the shirt. In fact some don’t care if they play!

There’s only 2 major deals. Kit manufacturer & Kit sponsor.
We also have the stadium naming right but that’s was another means of getting more cash at the time.

As we know the Kit manufacturer & Kit sponsor don’t run out for some time.
However, some smaller deals have been done with Idesit, Thomas cook Sport & Carlsberg. Also the commercial team look after the sales of the corporate boxes which I hear is sold out this year.
I’d like to see us to a similar training top deal like Man U with DHL as that seems a new area to exploit.

The way that football is we can still get major sponsorship deals even without European football that would still dwarf our current deals. Look at Liverpool with there sponsor with Standard Charter which equates to £20M a year!

I do agree that that the football side needs reinvestment. Get rid of the crap dross hanging around our club and buy some quality players. Stop buying youth as we already have an abundance with that and concentrate on the 1st team. Doesn’t have to be start but just quality and stop pissing around over minimal differences in fees!

Hopefully then we can have a team that can challenge for honours.

I would guess that things aren't as simple as that.

As someone who can read a set of accounts, I want you to know that a lot of people have been fooled. We DON'T make a profit. Now the property deals are up, the cash has been banked and not re-invested. We now BREAK-EVEN. Our wage bill is a joke. Apart from the players, Wenger is on £7m, Rice on £1m, Gazidis on £1,7m last season. The rest of the Commercial Team are on c. £5m per year. Where is the return on investment for that lot?

If Wenger clings on to power he will bankrupt us. It might look pretty now, but it really isn't. At exactly the time we needed to be successful on the pitch, Wenger has failed us. When we become a top-8 side, I don't want to bear thinking about how far we can fall.

The rats have already started fleeing the ship...... and we're headed for a financial iceberg.

Heard it here last.
I think we are in trouble on the field in the short term with the Kroenke/Wenger double act but cant imagine we will ever become broke Frank, the reason being Kroenke payed something like £450 million for his shares at Arsenal and by going broke they would be worthless. I cant imagine a sucessful business man like Kroenke allowing that to happen any time soon

I see what you mean Flash BUT.
Kroenke isn't that smart is he? He is in charge of a depreciating asset and that's a fact. Arsenal's commercial sponsorship deal for a circus club no longer in Europe...how will that work out? ST renewals will be down again next summer, Arsenal barely break even at the moment.

Sure he won't go broke but the fact is he massively overpaid for what is now a hugely depreciating asset! Kroenke is a fucking clown, just see what he did to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. After they sold Carmelo Anthony their team looks like a NBA version of Arsenal. A farce no one wants to pay to watch.

He is a short-termist Kroenke when, to make money out of football you need a long view (this is why the Glazers at ManUre will make money. They have a long view. They have invested in the club despite the debt and will sell at a massive profit due to ManUre's sustained success).

Babatunde havent you just posted why Kroenke isnt a 'short term-ist'? In the short term i think Arsenal's value may depreciate but long term it wont. He is hardly going to shell out fortunes and lose money on it by selling early
