Poppies on the England Shirts

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

All we need to do is swap the three lions badge for the poppy and tell FIFA it's our new badge and then swap it back after. They're so fuckin thick they'll fall foR it. Anyway, someone at the FA needs to grow a pair and tell that incompetent prick Bladder that we're wearing them whether he likes it or not. *word censored*!!

As the self-appointed whistleblower, I think it's a Cork conspiracy. :redcard: :tricolour:

The Rebels are coming together to trick us. I reckon you'll be switching counties and getting more historical next to keep up the smokescreen.

I'm waiting for BoolavogueGooner to become the next registered member

First let me say I have no problem with the wearing of poppies, my father was in the royal navy during the second world war, and always wore a poppy at this time of year.
I do however see were fifa/uefa are coming from on this.

I can't see how Sid.

FIFA have stated they haven't allowed this as they prohibit religious or political messages on shirts but the waering of a poppy has nothing to do with faith and is not lnked to a political movement in any way.

It is simply honouring those who are no longer around!

England will be playing Spain, who were shall we say, friendly with Mussolini and Hitler during the war. Fascism is also still alive and kicking in Spain, with many of it's people longing for a return to the days of Franco.
The wearing of a poppy is still very much assosciated with remembering those who fought in the second world war, and is rightly or wrongly somewhat considered a symbol of nationalism.
And it could unfortunately be used by extremists from both sides to cause trouble.
I just think it is best left for the lapel of a jacket, rather than a sports jersey.

In summary, England should not upset Spain's facist sensibilities.
