ARSENE WENGER TRANSFERS:DO YOU WANT HIM TO HAVE MORE MONEY?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Spot on mate.

And to the bloke who said Aliadiere was not a flop and 'everyone still talks about his potential', ALL professional footballers have potential. My 6 year old nephew has 'potential'. Anyone can have 'potential'. Jeffers and Christopher Wreh had 'potential'.

You're either good or not. Aliasidere is shit, was shit, always will be shit. That's why he was training with us and not one club anywhere serious will take a punt on him. Shocking player.

I also don't understand this 'such and such seemed a good signing at the time'.

You can't use that as a defence of Wenger (a ridiculous one imo) and then in the next breath, comically castigate Ferguson for signing Berbatov. (what did HE not seem a good signing at the time?). ALL managers make signings that 'seem good' at the time.

Sorry but because Rosicky 'seemed a good signing' at the time, that in no way, shape or form is any kind of serious defence of Wenger's pathetic transfer record post 2006! His JOB is to make good signings. If they go wrong, it's his job to ship them out. Rosicky was signed in 2006. In 2010 I believe his contract was up. He was given a contract extension and a substantial pay increase. Though I even doubt Wolves would sign him right now.

When Spuds signed Rebrov he 'seemed a good signing' at the time.
He wasn't.

And though I agree Berbatov has kinda flooped for ManYoo, there is one flop that can point to a PL Golden Boot and a Premier League winner's medal.

I'd kill to have a 'flop' like that in the Arsenal squad any day.

They get Berbaflp we get Chamakh.

Go figure....

I suspect we could look at virtually any manager's transfer dealings and have a good laugh. It's clearly an inexact science.

Where I have an issue with AW is his so called 'loyalty' to players who are generally seen as flops. Fergie has made as many crap signings as AW but seems to recognise them sooner and is ruthless in getting rid of them. He isn't worried about loyalty or being seen to have lost face.

The thing is, football transfers are not that cut and dried. You could name any manager and list his flops and they would be comparable to Wengers in all honesty. Only difference might be that Wenger wasted less money on his?

I'm not a Wenger defender and I want him gone - but it is too easy to point at flopped transfers as if he is the only manager that has had them.

Every manager has signed players that looked awesome then didn't live up to their potential for whatever reason. It's a gamble and all managers take it.

Rednose is the most successful manager of all time. Look at his list of flops and it compares with Wenger's.

Having said all that I agree that Wenger's insistance in persisting with obviously shit players for far too long is a huge problem. Most managers will see a player isn't good enough and drop them, Wenger seems incapable of admitting he got it wrong until it is so obvious that it is embarrassing. And by then it's often too late and our season is over.

Over the past 5-6 years, it is my contention that Arsene Wenger's record in the transfer market has been absolutely fucking pitiful. I genuinely mean this, but I could be wrong of course.

Below is a list of all of Wenger's transfers since then. Have left out all the new summer ones for fairness' sake. I'd be interested to note which of these players people would list as a 'success'. By 'success', I mean was a quality first team player for Arsenal for more than one whole season.

My thoughts are that looking at this list, it is very Harry Redknapp-esque. So so much money just blown left, right, centre with no clear plan. Just literally spunked on uselessness, there seems to be little thought going into this in my opinion. Perhaps some disagree though and that's their right.

Yes every manager makes mistakes but when one realises the kind of players available for the money spent, which is where top managers should be justifying their wages well....

Here it is. Apologies if a bit exhaustive....

January 2006:

In:

Theo Walcott (Southampton, £6 million initially, rising to £12 million on completion) FLOP
....
I stopped reading at this point.
Is this the same Theo Walcott who I watched last night nailing down his right wing spot in the England team?
Is this the same Theo Walcott who recently scored the goal of the season against the chavs, working his way through their entire defence despite falling flat on his face?
Is this the same Theo Walcott who on Saturday added a win over the world champions, Spain to the win over the club champions, Barcelona earlier this year?

what a total knob. :banghead:
oh and of course you are going to leave out all the summer transfers because they are all being successful

Sorry this list you have put up is not a full list of every player that has signed for Arsenal over the said period so as an argument or as a discussion point it is invalid

just for example Wojciech Szczesny(signed Aug 1 2007) is missing from your list

absolutely! :barscarf:

a bag of crisps, damn i had lots of those in london but they're not as popular (and not even close to being as good) here in brazil. :(

i also miss the hot dog i had twice, very near the grove. now that was a proper hot dog, a shame you guys can't have beer on the streets like here in brazil.

and ok, you convinced me, i'm going mexican! :barscarf: :barscarf:
