Silly banner thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

so embarrasing, that even Dec from Ant & Dec, sitting next to the one in the red arsenal shirt, had to look away in disgust :-P

Who is the knobhead putting his thumb up above the banner ??

The reverse of that was the hero that gave the old five knuckle shuffle gesture over the "in Arsene we trust" banner at the bowl this season.....something captured by ESPN before they quickly moved the camera away ! I will gladly buy that man a pint if positively identified !

A reminder that we ask everyone to respect other people's views on this forum. I'm sure you are all quite capable of expressing how much you disagree with people's banners without resorting to making personally abusive remarks about individuals.

If you can't cope with that rule, then please PM me and I'll be happy to ban you and delete your account.

Can someone please paste the "Real fans have patience" one up here - the one that Red Action or whatever they are called produced on that show of goodwill for Wenger (which has clearly reaped dividends ever since)

I feel wound up enough so seeing that will ensure the red mist well and truly descends

If they want banners, let individuals or groups of mates get together and get one made up. Not have them all in the same style/size/font etc. It's shit and it's a joke. :banghead:
But wasn't the banner 'competition' thing on Arsenal.com which led to these banners exactly that? Anyone could have a go - They all need to be the same size to fit on the fascia, but the style and fonts are definitely different.

Surely that was the opportunity for anyone who wanted a banner to get one? If you still have one you want to get displayed, then contact the club ; It's a piece of cake.

Seems like they just can't win - the opportunity was there for everyone

I think the feeling is you can display a banner if it meets the criteria of the club even down to favourable wording. So its not quite as black and white as you make out :?

but im not sure we need to go over SWL's banner again :? :D

Yes, of course ; But that goes without saying.

Would you let your missus put up a flag at home saying 'Flash is a twat' ; No, you wouldn't.

The idea that the club, or any club, would let any fan permanently display anything critical is just ludicrous, and anyone thinking otherwise is living in their own little world.

Even the name of a boozer like 'The Railway Gooners' etc would be fair game, or 'Irish Gunners' etc - The opportunity was given to all the supporters clubs, but the only one who took up the offer was the Essex SC, so their flag is now displayed on the upper tier at the North End alongside all those from the online comp.

It's just another classic example of 'Can't someone else do it??' which is a poison running through our fanbase for the last ten years.

And then when someone else does it, the only reply is 'I don't like it'

oh i do agree there are too many talkers not enough do-ers. The fact is there is a lot of apathy but some of that comes from the clubs strict dictator style approach where you get the feeling whatever is suggested very little of it will ever be acceptable.

As for favourable banners and stuff i wouldnt expect a banner slagging the club or Wenger to be hanging up every week but equally i wouldnt expect someone showing such a thing to be frogmarched out of the stadium or have a banner confiscated either :? but i really dont want to go down the well trodden path of banners

They all look like they were done by the same design team, that's what I meant by the same font/style etc. It doesn't look like fans did them, it looks like Arsenal hired a design consultancy for the day and got them to knock up a few banners. Very Chelseaesque.

Yeah fan's could get involved but it was what fit's their agenda obviously. What happened to the Glory Glory? banner?

What I meant by fan's getting involved was, mates putting some cash together, getting in the ground abit early and hanging the banner up, takling it to aways with them etc.

I doubnt there are many clubs in Europe that use Facebook to get fans to design banners. It''s so shit it's unbelievable. One of the cringest things I've seen in a footy ground.

Yeah, it did exist, but remember this was 2009, and opinions etc were very different then ; A lot has changed since, so it can't really be used as a stick to beat someone with in 2012.
