As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He isn't good good enough and without knowing exactly how much money he is on (g88ner ), I guess it is at the top end of what he would command in general, and this also cause consternation. I think if you have top players then you're prepared to pay the price, but we seem to have so many avergae players being paid a lot of money.
Ability wise, I don't have much of an issue with Djourou being 4th choice.
The thing that grates is the alleged wages he's earning, which - if true - are surely too high to justify. Yet his contract was only signed a few months ago, which suggests to me that Wenger/Gazidis have little intention of addressing our current wage structure and look set to continue to overpay players who contribute very little to the cause
Gazdis did speak of "inefficiencies" in wages, so hopefully that suggests a change of policy is on the cards... but actions speak louder than words, and the the recent Djourou contract is very worrying.

This is a good poin because there was a large demand on here for Clichy to be sold, he was rightly considered a defensive liability.
Has improved at Man City.
Then there was Armand Traore who was slated on here.
He has improved at Q.P.R.
It all comes back to the Online Gooner Old Chestnut: "We need a defensive coach".
To be fair we also saw how good clichy could be. Was not from 2007 that he started to show how good he was up until that fateful day on birmingham, and then eventually playing with players who gave him no cover whatsover. I'm not surprised under the proper coaching of Mancini he is looking like his old self.
Djourou is different. I have very rarely seen why he was rated so well bar the fact he is 6'4", so heads the ball with greater ease than our 6'0" CBs. He can go for sure. The problem is if the likes of skillaci stay and move closer to playing.

Unless a new purchase of a defender is in the offing
( I can but hope- it is the only thing I have left)
I believe Bartley could fill the position of 3rd/4th choice: not automatically demanding a first team place, good enough to fill the gap in an emergency, whilst getting experience in our cup games.
