Why did the apology thread get locked?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This is exactly the kind of petty squabbling that make genuine forums difficult to maintain.

i locked it.

it had served its purpose. sid got a warning, his first and sid knows now anymore shite like that and he gets a ban,
other members who recently served bans have always had at least 2-3 warnings beforehand but had not listened .

Just to clarify.

sid was treated exactly the same as frankbutcher was. I pm'd him and gave him a warning regarding xenophobic and racist comments. All forum members are treated this way. A warning first (unless it's something so bad it deserves an instant ban) then, if need be, a ban. A ban is always the last resort.

sid then came on and apologised, which is where the matter should end. There was no patting him on the back or preferential treatment. He was told his comments were unnaceptable both by pm and on the forum. He apologised and publicly accepted that he had done the wrong thing. Whilst I can never respect his original comments I do respect him for admitting he was wrong and apologising.

The difference with frankbutcher was he came on after I had given him a warning and repeated his xenophobic/racist remarks and abused a mod. That was why he was given the initial 7 day ban. He then came back on and showed no remorse or reticence whatsoever about making those remarks and then threatened to have the forum and website shut down unless he received an apology. He was then permanently banned for threatening the forum. We do not accept threats of any nature from anyone. End of.

Now I think the similarities and the differences between both instances are there for all to see.

Remember this, we are always only one or two dodgy posts away from getting shut down again. So please, let's cut the shit and act like adults.

Reb did right to lock the apology thread as it was starting to go off into another pointless scrap.

I don't see how it was a backhanded apology, obviously as an Irishman I was delighted to see England go out, it's called local rivalry. Also I don't want my kids to have to re-live both 1966 and 2012 for the rest of their lives
As for not hating the English, my father was English and a second world war veteran and man I admired as well as loved.
Gunnersaurus, I know we have crossed swords in the past over our opinions on Wenger, but it seems to me you have an underlying issue here.
I have made a genuine apology, if you or anyone else can't accept it then there is nothing I can do about that.
I'm not going to comment on the matter again.
