Anelka better than Henry i have read it all now.And from augie as well.To me Henry and Bergkamp were the best two players i have ever seen in an Arsenal shirt. But lets be honest neither of them turned up for any of the cup finals they played for us in.
As for George Graham he built the modern Arsenal which Wenger took on.Before GG took over average gates were 21,000 with some games crowds going down to 15,000.As well as winning trophies he gave us back our pride

I liked the white away shirt we had a few years ago.
I think Francis Jeffers was unlucky not shit.
I still quite like William Gallas

In fairness to augie, I don’t think he is saying that Anelka was, as such. I think he is saying that under different circumstances Anelka could have been, had the potential to be?donaldo wrote:Anelka better than Henry i have read it all now.And from augie as well.To me Henry and Bergkamp were the best two players i have ever seen in an Arsenal shirt. But lets be honest neither of them turned up for any of the cup finals they played for us in.

Re: Controversial Arsenal views
Once on ANR there was an anecdote from a French journalist who had hitched a lift with Vieira and Pires.
Apparently they were discussing Anelka and said he could have been the very best of the French players if he had applied himself.
All I can say is I would have loved to have seen various combinations of Bergkamp, Anelka, Henry and Pires.
Not quite sure how we would have lined up without rotation but possibly
Vieira and Parlour deep midfield
Pires wide left, Bergkamp central, Henry wide right and Anelka up top?

Thats exactly what I am saying - Donaldo I did say that anelka's career doesnt come close to matching henry's so I was just talking about potential/ability

I do seem to remember reading that the Clairefontaine Academy coaches always considered Anelka to be the better prospect out of the two. But that was obviously when they were very young.augie wrote:DB10GOONER wrote:In fairness to augie, I don’t think he is saying that Anelka was, as such. i loved the midfield of fabregas, rosicky, hleb and flamini. thought we could have won a lot if that midfield stayed intact. i firmly believe that our midfield 3 next season should be wilshire, arteta, and rosicky...and i believe ramsey should be sold because he is the worst player outside of squillaci i have ever seen.
Re: Controversial Arsenal views
I loved GG but was starting to turn on him just before he got sacked.
.
Myth surrounding Rocky because of his untimely death, he was a decent player imo nothing more.
Campbell overrated but worshipped because he shat on spuds.

sid, perhaps it was him being sold "early" rather than his death that gave him this so called mythical status (which is more to do with a mixure of him as a player, couple with him as a man).goonersid wrote:Myth surrounding Rocky because of his untimely death, he was a decent player imo nothing more.

Granted, you probably didn't see him that much of him in his prime - but to call him just "decent" is so far off the mark that I can barely see your comment over the horizon.

Fabregas and Flamini fair enough, they worked, simple as. Hleb 7 goals in 89 league games, Rosicky 13 in 118. Pires and Ljungberg combined PL goal tallies from 01/02 onwards: 21, 20, 19, 24. Say what you want about losing the likes of Vieira, Henry and Bergkamp (obviously huge blows) but for me too many people overlooked the fact we were missing out on 15 league goals a season from wide men.Yankee_Gooner_Dandee wrote:i loved the midfield of fabregas, rosicky, hleb and flamini. thought we could have won a lot if that midfield stayed intact. i firmly believe that our midfield 3 next season should be wilshire, arteta, and rosicky...and i believe ramsey should be sold because he is the worst player outside of squillaci i have ever seen.

I've never liked Adebayor, even when he played for us
he used to carnival dance on Highbury pitch which really used to piss me off.
