Gunnersaurus wrote:The problem with Szeceney is not the mistakes (every keeper makes them) it's the way he's put out there by the club or the way he puts himself out there to speak to the media with some strong statements, this gives an aura of arrogance IMO, compare that to another young keeper who is having a rough time (De Gea) who just seems to keep his head down and try to improve himself.
This. I'm all for CONFIDENCE in a keeper, but a fine line between CONFIDENCE and ARROGANCE which is what Szczesny is. Arrogance like many have said in this thread leads you to believe you are the finished article and you cannot improve any more. Confidence means you have belief in your ability but your mind is always open to learning. The fact he is arrogant rather than confident means he will continue to make these f#ck ups and probably won't end up realising his potential which is a great shame.

Indeed, the poll is based on that, I'm just asking a Q to the guys who voted Sz 8)
Who made you the question master?

I voted Chesney and no i wouldnt play him injured, he's good but far from the finished article and IMO shouldn't play injured

Let's not play Vito against Olympiacos then.

I think Mannone should be in goal next Sunday, based on recent performances and the fact that Szczesny has to realise he's not irreplaceable. which I think he doesn't.

Well said. De Gea is an infinitely better keeper than the gobby Pole but I don't see so many loudmouth interviews?
Yes be confident but not arrogant, especially when you had the worst saves to shots ratio in the entire division last year, and went on to be quite easily the worst keeper at the Euros, managing to gift one howler, get sent off and then be suspended.
Mannone and Chesney are nowhere near the levels of Alex Manninger (an Arsenal number 2 who became a Juve number 1) and John Lukic. Note, these were Arsenal back-up keepers.
Wenger could have signed someone like Julio Cesar for nothing and I'd trust him in nets far more than the idiotic overrated Chesney.

Baba, you mentioned this shots/saves ratio after the match on Saturday and I asked you to post a source.

You ridicule other people using stats but aren't shy to post your own. Even if they are bullshit.
At 57%, Paul Robinson has the lowest shots-to-save ratio of any Premier League goalkeeper.

Are you embarrassed or just angry? Does me pointing out your mistakes and hypocrisy mean I am an AKB or is it more sensible to view me as tired of your bullshit?

Mannone has made some diabolical errors whilst in goal for Arsenal. Chezza is a long long way from being a top top keeper. The most damning thing is that Mannone has been at the club for 7 years, has been on loan a few times in lower leagues and has never 'shone' as an outstanding keeper and yet here he is pushing for the number 1 spot!!??

Wenger has always had a blind spot for goalkeepers and nothing has changed, he'll be telling us Mannone is world class soon, the same as Flappy and Chezza. We don't have a great keeper......period. Chezza is the most promising but needs to cut out the silly mistakes and improve on his distribution which is piss poor.

Chezza's stats are not the worst and they were majorly affected by the 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

I suppose I did argue that the 8-2 defeat was irrelevant too

Arsenal currently have the best shots/saves ratio in the league. After 4 games, does that now mean Mannone and Ches are the best in the league

Or does it mean we are currently defending better as a team but with bigger tests to come?

De Gea had the worst shots to goals ration while in Spain, he also missed the most crosses last year.

Now I'm not going to post links to these stats, or answer anyone that proves me wrong.

Wojciech's getting slaughtered for dropping a catch at the weekend. I'd hate to think of the response he'd get if he fucked up like this

FYI - I'm not saying that Szczesny is currently a world class 'keeper but he's twenty-effing-two for crying out loud. The bloke is going to drop a catch or two in his career. Get over it. When he falls over, completely unchallenged, when he can easily catch the bouncing ball, feel free to freak out. Until then, there are far bigger issues in our team than the 'keeper.
its not about the dropped catch at the weekend though.
How about the 49 goals he let in last season in the league?

Chesney played very well in our big match of the season against Udinese but after that it was pretty much downhill all the way. Just my opinion though, I am not trying to wind anyone up, just stating facts. If others think Chesney is better then fair enough.
Nice try. However, I learned a while back the perils of engaging in discussions with trolls.

Point your fishing rod elsewhere.
