Overseas gooners and one in particular

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I don't think many people mean it to apply to people from Ireland or elsewhere in Europe or the world who care about the club and do what they can in terms of getting to games. At the end of the day even ignoring travelling costs your bank account is as much (if not more) of a factor than love of Arsenal.

With very few exceptions I don't accept that a person living in East Asia who likes to wear the kit and has the lampshade and the mousemat but doesn't really care is as big a fan as somebody who lives, sleeps and breathes AFC. If somebody doesn't have a deep down burning hatred for Spurs or identify with the traditional values of the club then I wouldn't acknowledge them as a true fan.

I realise that that definition might apply to people living in North London, or that a very tiny minority of Asians are genuine Gooners. But it's a fair generalisation in my view.
Whats wrong with Asian fans u racist mug ,many here in Singapore attend matches saving their hard earned pennies to travel to see the Arsenal. Its a long way to travel and a lot earn less than 200 quid a week . The Singapore Arsenal supporters club is growing despite our lack of success. I'm from Islington but so what. One thing I do object to is the supposition that armchair twats watching in the boozer and buying a shirt every 2 years makes u a gooner it doesn't. People talk about money but for me its a lifestyle choice and i most certainly do see myself as more Arsenal than say a red member who attends 1/2 games a year by choice or an armchair who never goes .

There was a time in the mid eighties when crowds at our beloved home of football was often below 20,000, back then we were quite grateful for the coaches that came over from Scandinavia and the Irish supporters who would regularly turn up to watch the dire show that we had to offer. (Hawley / Hankin the H bombs !),

Nowadays it appears that football snobbery has taken over and we should hand pick those who are allowed to spend, in large amounts, their money watching their favourite team.

As far as I am aware football fans come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, colours and genders and you don't have to have spent half a day working in football to be able to love your club.

It takes a damn sight more effort to get over and watch a game from abroad than travelling a few stops on the picadilly line.

If you think we have too many "tourists" now, just wait till ffp kicks in and we rule the world :)

I'm in an area of the world that is snobbish when it comes to football...hell, here we dont even have the sense to call a game that you play with only your feet, football! anyway, I cant say that I'm a gooner from the day I was born cause honestly I wasnt born in north london and grow up with this team a few miles down the road. I also cant say i hate spurs in anything other then a philosophical sense, seeings how I dont take garbage from them week in and week out about their team at work or have to worry about their simpleton fans from creating mob destruction after a good thumping.

But I will say I follow this team closer then I do any other professional sport or team of anything. I love this game and I love the gunners, they are my team, thick and thin, win or lose. I'll be one of the "tourists" in the stands Christmas week singing my heart out after 15 years of never having seen OUR team.... and it will be sweet :barscarf:

Maybe read the post again before spitting feathers. I said what I feel most people are referring to by taking swipes at "overseas fans" and why. As I've said many fans from Asia and indeed elsewhere from across the globe may well be genuine Gooners and many people from the UK and even N5 may be muppets who deep down don't give a shit about AFC.

Tell me exactly where I said there's something inherently wrong with an Asian person supporting Arsenal. I merely said that those that wear the merchandise etc but don't care deep down aren't proper Gooners, and said that that also applies to 'locals' and people wherever they live. Hardly racist is it? :rubchin:

My concept of derided overseas fan is the stetson wearing variety of one.... Who tries to force their demands on those who have been going for years (such as not standing)
