Di Matteo was a shit appointment in the first place.

I see his time at Chelsea much like a stewardess who is thrust into the pilot seat after the pilot and co-pilot both eat fish and die in the cockpit  - the stewardess, lets call her Roberta, takes the controls and miraculously flies the plane to the nearest airport and lands safely, saving the lives of the other passengers, and instantly becomes a national hero :barscarf:

In fact, the airline are so impressed with her heroics that they give her a full time job as an airline pilot! hooray!

Of course, Roberta knows the truth... she can't fly a plane at all. The plane was on autopilot all along and landed all by itself!! All she had to do was sit in the cockpit and look like she knew what she was doing. Easy.

Anwyay, to cut the story short... Roberta takes the pilot job, and inevitably crashes and burns. Airline realise they appointed her in a haze of hysteria and replace her with a proper pilot instead.

The end.

I think Pep is a top bloke and a good manager, but he has always been his own man and doesn't like interference, so wouldn't appreciate being told who to buy or play. However, ten million a year may soften his stance.

As much as the Chelski job may be considered a bit of a poisoned chalice it could also be considered a no lose one. You get shed loads of money to spend on whatever players you want. You do well (as you should), you're a hero. You do badly and you get sacked and can bank the multi-million pound payoff.

Abramovich may not accept second-best, but maybe his actions have partly caused their unacceptable performance.

What a joke club Chelsea FC continue to be.

Shit club, no class, crap history.

No doubt some on here would love Abramovich to be in charge here to pander to their short-termism

Oh, come on! It's not that bad, is it? :(

I really do think Chelsea were on autopilot after Villas Boas left. They had all the tools and they had the desire. They already knew how to defend en masse, they already knew how to win matches and trophies, and they had Drogba, who was a man possessed.

Di Matteo didn't have to do much apart from keep spirits high, I reckon. Throw in a lot of luck and bobs your uncle!

He's no great loss.
