WHAT DO ARSENAL FANS NOW SEE AS FAILURE

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Judging by the mass euphoria at beating West Ham I would think that only relegation to the Blue Square Premier would be deemed as failure by the bowl dwellers and even then it would be down to 'special circumstances' and those nasty men at UEFA not implementing financial fair play

I just hope when Wenger does go(I dont hold out any hope it will be next year :banghead: )that he takes all the AKB's with him who have bought the premise hook line and sinker that 4th place is a trophy. Its not for the 6th richest club in the world

Finishing below a smaller, money strapped, team like Spurs would be failure.... !

Thinking 4th place is a trophy is the biggest failure, can you imagine fergie or mancini telling their players at the start of the season tht its all about 4th place and anything else is a bonus,no you fucking wouldnt, but thts the norm now at arsenal. :banghead:

Personally I am content with finishing 4th every season and securing Champions League football, although I am not happy with this just content. It is very difficult to challenge for trophies when you are selling your prized assets to rival on a regular basis, whilst also trying to keep up with teams with far superior financial resources. This is something that needs to stop happening and looks to be getting addressed to some extent with out investment in more young British players and with the securing of 5 long term contracts earlier in the season.

Tell that to Swansea and Bradford.

The absolute LACK OF AMBITION other than to finish in the top four is a real failure for me. Its a failure of spirit, a failure of soul.

The lack of hunger, lack of passion, no guts for glory, no stomach for the fight. We are no longer even within hoey of winning anything anymore. The Club has basically been emasculated, feminized. Its been like this for the last 3 seasons at least.

Wenger has clearly given up, he's convinced himself and his cronies that we just can't compete anymore until FFP (excuse to spend nought bar wasting millions on wages for mediocrity) so 4th place must be good enough, like it or lump it. That's the mentality now, a bridesmaid mentality.

What is the most galling aspect of this is that it didn't have to be this way. The indisputable proof of this is that year after year our net transfer spend has been on a par with relegation zone teams!! ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! The Stadium has been the excuse but it doesn't wash. This is absolutely indefensible to me and patently shows that Wenger is well past his use by date.

Well yes they are both in a cup final, but neither consistently compete for trophies as we believe we should be. They have just gone on a very good cup run, that any team is probably capable of on their day. Although Bradfords achievement is pretty special.

Was wondering something similar the other day myself and I tried to find out but the only think I could find was a link to a story back in august which suggested that only arshavin, flaps, squillachi and two other who I cant remember (dont think they are on your list though :? ) are out of contract this summer

Fairly sure those are all correct. Not sure about Park because he was meant to be going to do military service this year which has been postponed.
